WTF?

Very different to leaving the door open

Whilst I don't agree with Googles collection of WiFi data . . you comparison about leaving the door open makes no sense. When you use unsecured WiFi you are willfully 'broadcasting' everything to all of those people in range . .

So its more a case of leaving your door open an hurling your belongings in every direction and then complaining that people are looking at them.

Like I said, I don't agree with the way Google has conducted their data slurp . . but if you are incapable of securing your wifi then I would argue that its your own fault . . IMHO I don't see it as a crime at all.

If you have chosen to broadcast your data to everyone in range in an unencrypted fashion. Deal with the consequences.

Tesco Mobile - SIM only

I've been looking at SIM only deals and was shocked to see that Tesco mobile provide the following:

Unlimited Calls

Unlimited Texts

Unlimited Data

for £30 a month!

I haven't signed up yet as my current contract period with O2 hasn't ended. so can't advise on customer service etc. However, from looking into things in more details, the Tesco mobile network runs on O2.

I'm sure there are fair usage policies in there, haven't managed to find the details of these yet.

not the most presigious of networks, but definately seems like the best deal to me!

Flash bursts onto Android

Hitesh
FAIL

does what you say even make sense in the real world?

What I fail to understand is how giving the consumer the choice to use flash is some how going to result in a 2 hour battery life.

Reading the article (which is generally good practive before commenting) I see that flash items on a web page are only enabled when the user wants them to be. So essentially and Android you would see the same page an apple phone user would see, but the Android user would be able activate any of the flash content that they wanted.

I understand that you want to make a point and all this bashing android and apple makes great reading . . and no doubt I sound quite boring in comparison . . but try and look at the real world rather than imagining an Android world where everyone is using flash 24/7?

I would suggest that giving the consumer a choice is better than enforcing your own will upon them. Wouldn't you agree?

Hitesh
WTF?

and your point is . .

"Doesn't the fact that you need a powerful enough phone point to the fact that Flash sucks??"

I think you clearly show your lack of understanding of mobile phone technology with such an unqualified comment . . obviously it takes more horsepower to run flash . . just as it takes more horsepower to run multitasking or display a background picture on an apple phone. Those that don't have sufficient power don't get that option (iphone 3G) and those that do, do get the option (iphone 3GS, 4).

Its simply the evolution of technology the new devices will clearly be able to support more processor intensive activities.

You have made the choice to use the platform that suits you, whether it be for its features, or simply because you think it makes you look cool in front of your friends.

I also don't see any issue with people having opinions on apple phones, android phones or any other platform . . clealy they all have deficiencies, but some are more deficient than others.

Personally I see the iphone as an excellent piece of technology which in some respects leads innovation and competition in the mobile devices market. However, the product is backed by a business that clearly doesn't look at providing the consumer with what they want, but rather enforcing what you 'should want'. This (for many) doesn't allow you to use your device in the way you may want to.

You are clearly happy in the safety of apple's walled garden. However many others, quite fairly and understandably don't agree with this concept and feel that if they pay hundreds of pounds on a device (device + contract) then they should be able to use it they way they want to not how apple dictates (and changes their opinion based on their leader's emotions that day).

Quite simply the Android platform provides more choice for the consumer than the apple platform. Both in terms of the allowing for hardware and software that suits you.

It doesn't take the one size fits all attitude that apple enforces.

Imagine what you would look like if you wore 'one size fits all' clothing . .

US iPhone ready to be tied down?

Hitesh
WTF?

Completely baffling

I've been tethering for years . . I've never considered that it was something that the phone manufacturer would actively disable?? . .

oh well . . the joys of being an iphone owner . . clearly the telco's know that since iphone owners happily pay for apps that are otherwise free for the world + dog, that they would pay once more for the data that they have already paid for under their data plan . .

. . I'll say it again . . baffling!

burst bubble

haha . . clearly the bubble I live in has been well and truely burst!

I'll certainly stand by my rights, but not to the extent that I would resist arrest?! I guess my experiences with the plod have been few and far between, others clearly have far more experience and I bow to their better judgement on the matter :)

WTF?

As an Asian Photographer . . .

As usual I think the Country is going PC nuts. I'm always out and about with my camera. Admitidly I have not yet been stopped by the the police for taking photographs in public places.

I am well aware of my rights and would promptly remind any mis-guided police officer of the laws around my photographic rights and question why I was being stopped/searched.

However, I think the "heavy handed" approach is far better then the soft approach that seems to be what this article is describing. As mis-guided and ignorant as the many members of the police force appear to be regarding their "powers", the approach they take could ultimately catch exactly those people that they are targeting. Although some of us may have to bear the inconvenience of being stopped as well.

I say let them carry on. We just need to be aware of our rights in the instance that we are incorrectly targeted. I know I am making these comments prior to any potential stop and search that I may have to endure (at that point maybe my mind may be changed!)

Windows Phone 7: free tools, captive Marketplace

Hitesh
WTF?

Couldn't agree more!

I was thinking exactly the same thing . . I have no issue with M$ building an App Store with controlled apps . . but at least allow the freedom for the user to use their own device in the way they want . . those Apple types can use the WM7 platform in much the same way they do their phones at the moment and feel all safe and secure that they apps have been vetted etc . . but at least those of us out there that who want to go beyond the warm cosy walled garden of the App Store should be allowed to . . after all I paid MY money for MY device . . i would expect to be able to use it the way I want. No doubt the WM7 devices will be cracked or "jail broken" (wonder which tool came up with that stupid term) to allow the freedom we are all (except iphone users) so used to at the moment

Yep Andriod is certainly looking like the only real option in the current market!
