Edward Snowden on his Putin TV appearance: 'Why all the criticism?'

Andy Tunnah

The russian record != the record

Putin could have said "no, we don't even have a secret police that will kidnap the balls out of anyone who opposes me!" while smirking, and doing the handjob sign at the camera...and 3 months later if the man was to deny it ever happening you can sure as hell bet nobody in russia will remember it ever happening.

Rumour: Next Apple iThing to feature 65-inch screen. Four-limb multitouch, anyone?

Andy Tunnah

Eegads imagine the price!

This will be a tough sell for apple because OLED screens are absolutely amazing...all of them...so they couldn't differentiate on picture quality. TVs all kinda look the same nowadays, very minimalist so can't go there either.

All that leaves is the remote..so probably going to end up with a fondleslab-sized remote to justify the no-doubt heart-attack inducing price premium.

The other thing is Apple are so used to bringing devices out "first", being a pioneer...OLED TVs are already coming out so Apple will be playing catch up...although I'm sure that won't stop them claiming copyright infringement somehow

Nominet bins Optical Express' appeal against 'It ruined my life' website

Andy Tunnah
Alert

A tad fishy...

So lemme just check the facts...she ran optimaxruinedmylife.co.uk, because of bad service, and optimax paid her off...at which point she then sets up opticalexpressruinedmylife.co.uk and is now doing the exact same thing, except this time she has no real gripe against the company ?

How has nobody brought up the fact that she's just aiming for another pay off ?

Also hush on the Branston, you might give her ideas for her next one!

You forgot to put the troll face icon because there is no way this is a serious post.

This is the sort of post I expect from one of the RSS-educated plasticgeeks who forms their opinions from whatever fart-thoughts are discussed the loudest.

Let's assume you're not trolling for a second. For one it's not politics involving itself in his business, it's a politician's abuse of power using a police unit under his command to execute his plan of extortion.

For 2...you know what, I can't carry on, you are trolling, if I'm to keep this little bit of faith in humanity intact, I need to believe you're trolling.

Re: For the prices charged for the latest Apple kit ...

It's not naive at all, with pretty much all other expensive electronic components a higher level of work force is behind it. In fact it's because of the higher level of work needed that the prices are high, and that's pretty much the standard in the tech world.

Apple are very smart though, in that they modelled their manufacturing processes in the same way as the only industry that gets away with that crap - the fashion industry. They make something everyone will want, create frequent updates to keep in trend, and most importantly farm out that design to the cheapest manufacturer while maintaining a high price.

I wonder if apple charged a normal price for their products, would they have the same snobbish fanbase ?

Sony KDL-40HX723 40in LED 3D TV

Andy Tunnah

judged purely on picture ?

this perhaps shows why it would be good to have groups of ratings rather than a single score

sure this set has a knockout picture, one of the best - but so it bloody well should for over a grand for a 40" set!

and while it may be a show stealer for the eyes it's a pickpocket when it comes to features - no drive for DVR, single tuner, no MKV support, and no wireless dongle ?

and not to forget the lack of glasses. i could understand this in 3-5 years time when maaaybe someone is upgrading their 3DTV so already has the binlids ready, but not now whilst the tech is still in it's infancy and pretty much every 3DTV purchase is a first born

first, bluetooth headsets - no matter what reason you have for them, no matter how discrete or stylish they may be, you will always look like a cock using it to talk

sennheisers do break but even so they're so worth it - i'm not an audiophile, and i listen mostly to metal or drum and bass; fast, loud. deep music and i've not found a pair that spits out more bass than my CX-300s (apart from a mate who had this £200 pair of earbuds but that is ridiculous..o well each to their own)

funny thing is one bud did stop working..didn't work for months, then out of the blue i put the wrong bud in my ear (only use 1 anyway, riding a bike and listening to music is suicidal) and they were fine again

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Andy Tunnah

finally!

been waiting a long time for this. when i first heard about it i was expecting a half-arsed attempt at a reboot, some studio trying to cash in on the legacy while not appreciating the source

started getting my hopes up a few months ago after seeing footage, then i read an interview with the art director ( http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/118/1180786p1.html ) and i was hooked

it was never going to be as good as the original, and you have to expect some pandering to console gamers so it's not gonna be a technological leap forward either, but at least they were reasonable faithful to the legacy

wonder if it still plays ok with a mouse & keyboard though..

why do people have to go whinging and crying over eeeevery little thing nowadays ?

so you lost a few items, lodge a complaint, ask for it's return and i'm sure it'll be done

the problem is with the advent of the litigious society we've become that every little hiccup that happens warrants some massive outcry and backlash, and it's permeating every aspect of our lives

Apple sues NYC mom & pop shops

Andy Tunnah

cmon guys..

we can sit here and say omg this is horrible they're just using the name in a clever way but we all know it's gonna be some really bad knockoff shop with dodgy chinglish and crappy...everything

although i'd never spend silly money on designer gear i also don't buy knock offs of it for 1 simple reason - the conditions may be poor but the quality is high, knock offs are 99% of the time inferior and in the case of good immitations it can damage a brand

also, is it racist that the second i thought of apple shops in china town all i could think of was the apple logo with a rice paddy hat and 2 south park-esque slits for eyes as the sign ? :D

not a PC/Mac argument, more a practical one

I understand that you pay for the looks, that's a given in life (I've bought many a sony vaio for a few hundred extra purely because they look loads better than other lappys) but if you wanna match this machine by it's only other stand out feature, the screen, then go for the Dell 27" A04 (http://www.scan.co.uk/products/27-dell-u2711-a04-wqhd-widescreen-lcd-2560x1440-hdmi-2xdvi-d-display-port-5-xusb-8in1-reader) or any other monitor that has an IPS panel. It's no Apple magic that causes their screens to be better than all others, they just always use IPS panels.

Artificial leaf produces electricity through photosynthesis

Andy Tunnah
Thumb Up

this is such a classic example of people not being impressed anymore

i seen a standup do a skit a few years back can't remember who and he made the point of how amazed we all were when like, portable tape players came out, or when sky first arrived here..it was amazing!

And how nowadays kids get given what would be classed as a supercomputer 20 years ago in their pockets and they just want more..

They've created a bloody artificial leaf! How about a few "wow! that's pretty freaking clever!"'s before questioning its operatability (is that even a word).

I dunno i just think that's bloody fantastic, ignoring all it's claims and if they're viable..the very fact that they did this is just incredible.

Panasonic Pure Line TX-L37D28 37in LCD TV

Andy Tunnah

hmm

i know you pay extra for quality and all that but it seems just down right retarded to pay £900 for a 37" when you can get a 50" plasma for £550 nowadays

yeah the picture quality will be worse etc. but you're not gonna have the other set sat beside it to compare it to

measurements

sorry to double post but why is everyone so obsessed with working it all out as a percentage of something else ?

none of us would get a 2gb limit because we know whats out there and spend more of our time finding stuff rather than clicking links in emails

20mbit (or whatever) with a 2gb limit is excellent for the none-computer savvy home user who has no concept of internet slowdown (who here hasn't been asked to fix the computer because a website loads slow?) because at the end of the day all mine yours and everyone else's mum wants is the latest facebook pics to load instantly so she doesn't panic and wonder why shes got half a face

Pioneer BDP-320

Andy Tunnah
Thumb Down

75% seems a bit generous

when buying an entertainment system like this, i rarely look at the tech specs and all the extra filters etc. as i've found once its setup and running i'm always perfectly happy with the picture (after all, i'm not comparing it to better or worse models so i don't really have a yard stick)

what i do look at is the stuff i'm gonna have to live with day after day, and this unit seems to lack those basic functions - backlit remote, in-film menu access, pre-HMDI support, returning to where you last were in a movie, and what i personally find the most infuriating of all, a long boot up time

maybe need 2 diff ratings, one for its technical prowess and one for its basic user satisfaction

Sony Bravia KDL-46W5810 46in LCD TV
