Wow, what an unbelievably bitchy article

I love it. More of this sort of thing, please.

I hope they've learned their lesson

I'm neither a Voda customer nor a Desire owner, but if I spend £400 on a phone it is *my phone* and you do not have the right to put your rubbish on it.

And another thing...

I love swearing as much as the next person (or more, in all probability) but advertising or marketing that relies on it for humour or effect is weak and lazy beyond belief.

It reminds me of a sweary advert for Richer Sounds which used to appear in Viz many years ago: they got the tone just wrong, and it seemed crashingly out of place even in the filth-laden pages of that venerable organ.

The tabloids have known this for years...

That's why the Guardian or the Times will print "fuck" but the Sun will print "f***". The latter actually draws more attention to it and heightens the sensationalism.

Sadly, most of the alternatives suck

I print out a lot of PDF sheet music (much of it from CPDL), and only Adobe consistently renders it well (I've just tested Foxit, CoolPDF and Sumatra on a motet by Victoria and they were all pretty unreadable).

Furthermore, the latest version of Foxit tries to install a pointless browser toolbar, and by default:

- Sets your default search engine to Ask

- Sets your home page to Ask

- Installs ebay icons on your desktop and in your start menu and quick launch toolbar

That is absolutely unaccetable behaviour from any app, let alone one that sells itself as the low-bloat alternative to a common tool.

Handy online dictionary

For those of us who have no clue about gaelic:

http://www.nic.funet.fi/~magi/opinnot/gaelic/irish-dic.html

So:

Féach ar na Féilire = look at the calendar

Súil = eye, hence presumably Pádraig O'Súil = iPad

That last sentence is beyond me though

Ah, got it...

It's their answerphone message - something like "we're on holiday, please leave a message after the tone".

This has actually got me mildly interested in learning the language, despite the fact that I never go to Ireland.

Obfuscating variable names...

... is a unbelievably terrible idea. It hampers maintainability and provides absolutely no security benefit, as anyone who has ever reverse-engineered symbol-stripped code can tell you.

Hammer/screwdriver

Boy did he get that one wrong... FWIW we always used to refer to a hammer as "the electric screwdriver".
