Sony 3D TV kit, PS3 games released tomorrow

Thumb Down

Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

Others may see it differently but when I consider the various problems that I have experienced with Sony flat panels, I can not imagine my purchasing yet another Sony panel. This aside, there is always the question of whether the added gadgetry is worth paying for. I think it is not.

One point well worth considering is that the 3D effect that we are being cajoled to purchase requires that one have two functioning eyes in order to perceive the so-called-but-not-truly 3D effect. My wife has only one functioning eye; in real life she has 3D vision but for her the simulated 3D effect is wholly absent and for her, the picture clarity is actually worse.

So when there are devices that a one eyed individual can actually use for 3D, then I will consider paying the 3D "tax".

JBL flogs monster speakers at monster prices

It is worth the price if you like it

Value is subjective. While I have heard JBL equipment that I liked, I have found some that I have not liked. I suspect that my wife would not like the way these look (for some that might be more than reason enough to find the speakers worth the price).

PS3 update to rid all consoles of Linux support

WTF?

I was getting bored with the PS3

It is a simple fact that I really don't use our PS3 much any more -- it is getting rather old in the tooth as a gaming platform and I really prefer using wasd+mouse over that annoying controller.

The only reason I have a PS3 at all is that I had a severe motorbike accident a while ago and during my recovery, my PC broke and being in a wheelchair I could not repair it so I got the PS3 to play games on; but now that I have recovered, the turn-key aspect of a game console is no longer quite so appealing to me.

If I do use our PS3, it is as a Linux box but even this I rarely exercise in favor of Linux on my PC (which is much faster). My wife still uses the PS3 to play DVD's but not Blu-Rays because the old titles that she likes work well on DVD's so again Linux (which she uses too) is just fine for that.

I enjoy tinkering with gaming hardware as much as I enjoy playing the games. But it is just too much work to consider doing very much with the PS3 (e.g., you can't just put in a new graphics device). So despite the hack, at this point it is irrelevant as I am back to PC gaming. Maybe PC gaming will go away (very possible) or maybe I will eventually become bored with PC gaming. In either outcome it does not matter there are plenty of other toys.

So in net, our PS3 is becoming superflouos. When it eventually fails, I will remove the hard disk and discard it and say good bye to Sony. It was a decent romp while it lasted.

No thank you please

I will not upgrade unless there is some way to de-instal these items. All the desktops are already much too hefty. I don't have a problem with others using FarceBook or tw@tter but I do have a problem with no being allowed not participate.. To quote Emily:

I'm nobody! Who are you?

Are you nobody, too?

Then there's a pair of us — don't tell!

They'd advertise — you know!

How dreary to be somebody!

How public like a frog

To tell one's name the livelong day

To an admiring bog!
