Dad sues Apple for pushing cash-draining 'free' games at kids

Seb123
WTF?

I don't understand how this can happen or how parents can allow this to happen. Every time that you try to do a purchase, it asks for the iTunes password. So the parent must have handed out the iTunes password to the kids and linked his credit card in. Not very smart. Especially when you could either:

A. Not give them your password and enter it for them whenever necessary - it's hardly that much effort

B. Created an iTunes account without a credit card and then occasionally buy them vouchers or make them do chores for them.

Come on people, this isn't rocket science. To sue Apple and show your failure as not just an adult, but also a human being, is just farcical.

Re: Agree he seems a most unpleasant person but...

Agreed. The general public will find many things "abhorrent", but that does not make them illegal. I fear that this is a slippery slope. The guy is clearly an idiot and an a**hole, but since when does that equate to jail time?

I am trying to understand the logic and law being applied here. If someone refers to a person as a c*** or a whore, then they won't go to jail. But if they say that the person is a c*** that loves n***** d*** , then they do go to jail because it's racist?

TSA bars security guru from perv scanner testimony

TSA should sort out their own house first

I fly a lot due to "business travel" and recently I went to San Diego. I often put my laptop into my main luggage because I don't feel like going through the comedy of having to remove it from my bag along with all of my clothes and dignity at the scanner. This has never been a problem and wasn't a problem when I flew to San Diego.

Unfortunately it was a problem on the flight back as I discovered when I got back to the UK – my laptop was gone. Clearly my sunglasses that were in the case were also a security risk so the TSA official helped himself to those as well. There were no signs of damage or forced entry on the suitcase so the objects were removed by using the TSA keys (I have “TSA approved luggage” like a good, law-abiding citizen).

How can this happen? I’ve travelled throughout Europe and to some more colourful and “unsafe” places and have never had a problem. What’s worrying is how can the people working behind the curtains get away with this? I assume they need to be scanned. If they can happily walk out with a laptop, charger and sunglasses at the end of the shift, how difficult can it be for them to walk in with anything they want and place it into someone’s bag?

Re: So what is your problem?

I am not sure where you bought your TV from, but the retailer is meant to either check your license or share your details with the tv licensing bureau . If you don't have a license registered to the address you provided, then you'll get a letter from the tv licensing people.

Seb123

That's all great until you dare to buy a television to play games on or to watch DVDs and so forth.

Have you ever tried to buy a TV without having a license? So no, you cannot just "choose not to pay the license, like you can choose not to have Sky". What if I am not planning to watch television? Or, even more so to the point, what if I am not planning to watch BBC or listen to BBC radio? Why should I be paying for this so that you can watch new episodes of Dr Who when this is something that I have no interest in whatsoever.

I live with my wife on the south coast and we have a tv license for that property, but I also own an apartment in London. I do not have a TV there because it’s pointless. I don’t watch television. Yet, as soon as I moved in, I started to receive letters about my tv license. They become more and more threatening over time. The final straw was when I discovered that one of these tv license inspectors had slipped a note under my door saying things like, “We warned you we would be coming. You weren’t here, but we will be back. Big fines, jail time and other scary stuff to come.” There are no options to tick, “I don’t have a TV so **** off” on any of these friendly correspondences.

I ended up phoning them and told them very firmly that I do not have a television and that they are welcome to come and check, but you need to come in the evening when I am not at work. They then removed my name from the magical list and the letters stopped coming, except for one a year checking if I still haven’t bought a TV.

Seb123
WTF?

Re: I'm all for the licence fee

I am curious whether you've actually ever watched Sky? Series like The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, Spartacus and Boardwalk Empire don't fall into the crap or cheap category, in my opinion.

Besides some great wildlife programmes, what exactly does the BBC make that is so awesome? Top Gear? I am not sure about the last couple of seasons.

Eastenders? It seems to me that all channels in the UK are equally rubbish

The real reason for the UK and the US to...

be in Afghanistan is to protect the Afghan people from the Chinese and to help them use their vast resources wisely. Whenever one is confused why is something happening, just ask yourself, where is the profit?

Here it is... just recently confirmed, I mean discovered. We didn't know anything about it before.

The United States has discovered nearly $1 trillion in untapped mineral deposits in Afghanistan, far beyond any previously known reserves and enough to fundamentally alter the Afghan economy and perhaps the Afghan war itself, according to senior American government officials.

DfT 'unwittingly' bigged-up speed camera benefits

Seb123
FAIL

Huh?

The point that you seem to miss with your "driving at 70mph is safe, driving at 71mph+ = death" argument is the fact that the UK speed limits were created back in the day when cars were rather more rudimentary and had much longer braking distances. Perhaps it's time for the UK to move forward?

The speed limits were created back in 1965 when your typical Ford Anglia had a top speed of 85mph and rather shoddy brakes. Research shows that most drivers on the UK motorways drive at 85mph and yet the motorways are, by far, the safest roads. Perhaps your "speeding is evil" argument needs to be rethought with some 21st century facts and good old common sense?

Apple coughs to iPhone 3G IOS 4 upgrade problems

Seb123

Issues

I don't know about all the crashes and other drama llama issues but here is what I've observed. I have an iPhone 3g and since the upgrade the phone runs a lot slower. Probably about 50% slower. It was not quick to begin with, so it's very noticeable.

When trying type in lots of text on webpage, such as this one, there is a serious formatting issue in Safari that wasn't there before

I went to Europe last week and the phone refused to connect so I couldn't roam.

Mail closes itself every now and then... for example if I delete a lot of mails quickly by swiping to the right. This used to happen before the upgrade as well.

Seb123

Interesting

I don't doubt that you have no issues with the iPhone 4 because I've played with many without issues, but to claim that you have no issues with the iPhone 3g is simply just ignorant. The phone runs a lot slower (about 50%) than before the upgrade and it is very noticeable. You can't pretend it doesn't exist.

I haven't seen some of the issues others claim such as dropping calls and so forth. Apps crashing would be down to the fact that they've not been updated to ios4 by the author. There were significant changes made in iOS4 and if the author does not recompile the app and was trying certain things, you'll have issues. I had to change some of the code in all of my apps because they were crashing.

Apple turns the flamethrower on Android

Software Patterns can be patented

How did Apple manage to patent software patents that are in use by nearly all GUI interfaces today? Who allows this sort of bs to happen?

Seb123

Not only Android

Windows 7 is built using the same/similar patterns that Android and the iPhone uses...

The '599 Patent, entitled "Object-Oriented Graphic System," was duly and legally issued on October 3, 1995 by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. A copy of the '599 Patent is attached hereto as Exhibit I.

The '354 Patent, entitled "Object-Oriented Event Notification System With Listener Registration Of Both Interests And Methods," was duly and legally issued on July 23, 2002 by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. A copy of the '354 Patent is attached hereto as Exhibit J.

These two patents mean that Apple basically own the rights to almost every Graphic User interface system in use today. I would like to seem them trying to take MS to court, especially considering that what happened in the 90s that got Apple back from the brink of bankruptcy. I recall Steve says that Bill G was a god amongst men or something similar.
