I got my silver badge years ago and give it about as much thought as I do my Silver Swimming Certificate and my Cycling Proficiency certificate!

I had occasion to call the Customer Support number for Kreg recently, after I bought a woodworking jig that had a piece missing.
The phone was answered quickly and courteously, by someone who spoke impeccable English, knew the product, and who explained that the SKU I'd bought didn't actually come with the part in question - but then offered to pop one in a Jiffy bag and post it to me free of charge anyway.
Can anyone imagine a similar experience with Microsoft? "ring ring Hi, Microsoft Support. Oh, no, you can't find the Group Policy Editor because you only have the Home version of Windows. Tell you what, give me your address, I'll mail you a Pro license key..."
That is how Customer Support should be done. I'm a Kreg customer for life now.
Same here, albeit with slightly less impressive numbers. I, who will not see 50 again, currently have on my desk in front of me the 8860 Car Chassis kit that I built circa 1981, and the 8865 Test Car that I built just a handful of years later. Also various self-designed cars from 82-89.
And for a birthday recently, relatives bought me the Chevrolet Corvette kit. It took me a lot longer to build than it would have done back in my prime, I tell you!
I suspect that given the skyrocketing price of memory thanks to the AI bros, we're going to see many more stories like this one, as software developers the world over suddenly rediscover the virtues of resource efficiency. Dare we hope that "Who cares about efficiency, just throw more cores and storage at it" will become an attitude as unacceptable as "sod the environment, just chop down some more rainforest"?

I have a Microsoft Internet Pro keyboard from circa 1999 - in fact I'm typing this very comment on it - and it still works perfectly. I just vacuum accumulated crumbs and dog-hair out of it every 12 months or so.

Though I like your idea of bit-banging wifi derived from the CPU clock - "using SpeedStep, your CPU has dropped down to 2.4GHz, partly to save battery but also to connect to your crusty old Wifi router" :)

Ah, what they should have done, instead of just hanging up the phone at local midnight, is babble something incoherent about "my god... the koalas... wallabies... they've got machetes... oh the humanity... oh nooooo, the 'roos have taken Clyde..."
And then hung up the phone.
To scratch this particular itch, I wrote a trivial C# WPF applet that sits pinned on the taskbar, and when clicked, pops up a dialog in the centre of the screen with a timer progress bar - and a large, prominent, "cancel" button that aborts the shutdown timer if clicked. That way I can shut down/hibernate my PC with one click but cancel it if I change my mind.
Happy to share the code with anyone who wants it, but it really wasn't more than 5 minutes' work.
