I'm no scientist but doesn't this only break things that are currently turned on? If so then I guess most stuff will just have to be turned off. I'm sure humanity will survive.

(Coat because I'm going to need some kind of protection against the triffids)

I went to Bletchley Park with a couple of friends this year. It was a really great day out and I advise anyone with an interest in IT to have a look. It's not expensive for entry and you can go back any time for a year after.

It's obvious that they need really cash though. So much of the site is in need of a major refurbishment.

Go icon because you should go and give them some money :)

I doubt if the new government could do much with this. I expect that it's all already been signed off. However is it not fair game for their great reform act if they are still doing the whole "we'll ask the public" thing?

Yeah we can just watch some good honest kinky MMF or FFM porn or some BDSM between consenting adults or just look at some dirty cartoons ... oh wait scratch those last ones.

Troll? Possibly.

People will always write news and people will always read news. Just like people will always make and watch movies and make or listen to music. If the big businesses who are currently in charge of these things die out because of piracy and whatnot then the worst that will happen is that we'll have to do without those luxuries for a little while and put up with slightly lower quality.

Notice that this hasn't been covered by the mainstream press. They really hate the fact that people have been drawing dirty things for as long as there's been something to draw on (loads of cave paintings depict bestiality).

The media really needs to point out that they are now being prevented from showing pieces of classical "art" because it really is no different from modern porn and therefore the whole thing is so stupid.

I reckon: £80m, 4 years late then scrapped. Can I have a prize (or a beer) if I get it right?

Study shows gaming can hinder reading, writing progress

B.S.

I know this study was conducted in America so the culture is different but ...

Generally I found that the kids in my primary school who had consoles were the smarter ones and would choose to read on their own or play constructive games. The ones without consoles were too busy playing futbol and smashing stuff and are now (as far as I know) on the dole or in prison.

It would be more accurate to say that people of my generation (who are apparently lazy) actually get stuff done without having to do overtime because they have better tools available and aren't too stupid to figure out how to use them (as pretty much everyone of "generation x" seem to be). This obviously makes the older crowd feel a little jealous.

However - there are A LOT of work shy wasters of my age here in the UK. They don't get jobs though they just sponge off the rest of us. Please don't lump me in with them.

Oh and narcissism is much better than pitiful modesty.

good idea

Normally I am opposed to this sort of stuff but I like this. It's easy to get rid of and it's not over the top. It's not like it's a government enforced censoring of the entire site. It's no different than preventing a kid from watching TV after the watershed, which is sensible and up to the discretion of the people involved.

Also it'll be useful when at work.

Can we have a filter that gets rid of anyone using "u" instead of "you" next?

News flash - sky is blue!!! Surely everyone already knew this. It's bad but it's not news.

To make matters worse people also write all of their log in details down and leave them helpfully by their computer (at work and at home). I'm willing to bet a fair number have their bank PIN written on a scrap of paper with their card too.
