Climate scientists see 'tipping point' ahead

Monkeywrench

To sum up all of their recommendations...

"reducing world population, reducing per-capita resource use, reducing the role of fossil fuels, improving energy efficiency, increasing the efficiency of food production and distribution, "and enhancing efforts to manage as reservoirs of biodiversity and ecosystem services, both in the terrestrial and marine realms, the parts of Earth's surface that are not already dominated by humans."

All that needs to be done is have the government take control of every aspect of everyone's lives. No thank you!

Does Britain really need a space port?

Monkeywrench

Great idea but...

Make sure that you get hooked up with right company. The one that we that we chose here in Oklahoma, Rocketplane, didn't quite pan out. Have a former SAC base with great runway but got wrong partner.

China hits back at US cyber snooping allegations

WTF?

Why is classified information on the Internet to begin with??

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that if you want to keep something secret you shouldn't put it on a medium designed for sharing information. Makes about as much sense as a bank putting its vault in the middle of an unlit, unguarded parking lot.

Why is all this super-secret sensitive information not on closed systems? Can someone please explain that to me?

No nuke reactors in space eh?

NASA to work on approved sci-fi books

Monkeywrench

Why write books about it when....

The Russians and Chinese are doing the real thing. Even the Iranians have put a few satellites in orbit. All NASA has to do is provide coverage of other space programs.

Let's see. I think the last one of those was at Inchon in 1950.....

Designers gone wild

It's getting so it's like an Easter egg hunt trying to find the things that used to be in plain sight. I think Microsoft started things off when they came out with Office 2007 and hid everything behind that big button. Now the browsers are following suit. Enough already!

I'm sure that someone has...

....and discovered that it's cost-prohibitive. This is not a laptop battery we're talking about. Lots of solar panels and lots of batteries. If this setup was cost effective it would be in wide use already for regular electric needs.

Bureaucracy definitely the deal killer

You hit the nail on the head with the last paragraph. Huge government bureaucracies and the final frontier just do not mix.

Unfortunately I don't think the private sector will accomplish much more than low earth orbit tourism. Going any further requires very large rockets.

Enter the Chinese. No budget constraints, no special interest groups, no taxpayer accountability....

So it took them nearly 10 months to figure this out?

It's obvious they did not want to have the event again period. Wait 9-1/2 months and then say it's too late to do anything this year but maybe next year the event will be back in "some form". What a bunch of hogwash. Good thing you don't have the running of the bulls there.
