our vat goes from 17.5 ( a tenth plus half that plus half _that_ ) to 20% (a tenth twice) because the average transaction time would increase to the end of time if a typical salesperson had to calculate 21%... nevermind 19.6% sacre bleu! (a tenth, twice, minus a bit... minus the lot for cash?)
it's a hard case, I fully support what he's done (the leaks.. errr the wikileaks), and would almost cetainly support him even if his principal target wasnt the 'united satan of merkins', but you must admit he is a monumentaly special kind of 24ct dipshit.

heres a novel approach, if apple dont like the deal they get from free subscription apps, I'm pretty sure there must be some teeny tiny little clause hidden away in the small print that would enable apple to kick the free app from the store. don't quote me here, but i *think* apple may have unilaterally ditched applications in the past. as i said im not sure about this, i would hate to wrongly accuse the saintly steve of some mis-demenour or other :D
The death sentence needs to be 'sought' by prosecution, if an undertaking is given that it would not be sought, then the UK would happily drop it's trousers, assume the position and brace itself.

heres a hint.... what we call 'learning' computers call 'programming'
AI is inevitable, although i'd suggest it takes more than one second to realise it.
it's relatively trivial to design a piece of code which using say, back error propogation will enable the code to modify it's own answer space based on its experience (you say learning i say programming!) and when such a a piece of code is 'trained' it will have mapped it's inputs to it's outputs ITSELF irrespective of the insight of the programmer.
presumably to sucessfully re-enter there would be a need for more heat shielding, which adds weight, which requires more fuel, which adds weight etc etc.

the terrain mapping lidar i use has the capacity for uv mapping digital imagery captured as part of the survey, then the files become unbelieveably massive (considering the point data alone can come in at about 8Gb per km surveyed) - takes forever, but looks incredible.
as for the detail, im not so sure about the reverse engineering type of kit these guys are using, presumably a couple of orders of magnature better than survey lidar, which is typically +- a couple of cm's.
of course the real bugbear with this is any kind of processing takes forever, which is probably the problem, click to convert and wait 3 days...
propriatary formats arew always a PITA, but as i said earlier OBJ is the way to go - especially with the UV coords I had forgotten about. and there is already tons and tons of software out there to crunch them numbers.
wavefront .obj as mentioned. everything 3d will open it, 3ds max, lightwave, maya, hell even poser :D
most 3d kit wil read it, almost as ubiquitous as autodesks dxf

either format will do as they are basically a plaintext file of xyz values. I use proper big lidar datasets all the time, they tend to be in ascii x,y,x 10 chars per field (which i tihnk is the bare bones of what you get in an .obj). Makes for mahoosive files sometimes, but what can you do? yuo want big things modeled in minute detail, dataset will be large.

We elect politicians to 'manage' the country (yeah they used to have leadership, but thats a different rant :D) in OUR interest. I was in a fortunate position:
I understood a bit about the tech.
I was able to research what was going on elswhere (the french equivalent of these highway men almost went to jail!")
I was able to work out that a 2 bit firm like the one that wrote to me would never in a month of sundays be sufficiently resourced to take even 10% of those cases to court.
And if they did, after the first 100 or so cases the judges would be gunning for them for wasting all their time.
Plus, and most importantly, if I was wrong in all the above and it went tits up I could pay the fine.
The poster child for these prosecutions was a single mother from brum i think, who panicked and failed to show at court and had a default judgement against her.
Sure she should have excersised more supervision about what her offspring were doing online, but not everyones priorities in life are the same as ours. We are all techeads here (exept the masochist mactards, who come here for a kicking) so to us using something ant not having some idea what goes on under the bonnet in anathema.
