The universe speaks: 'It's time to get off your rock!'

Naughtyhorse

Re: Considering the mess we've made of this planet...

maybe getting splatted by a fuck off space rock is our best chance for us not to fuck this one up

are you talking about space rocks, or CC

Re: Whatever. Random acts of the cosmos are just that ...

I can go about three months...

in this context, why would you want to?

i cant really see the great benefit in slowly dying of thirst/starvation 3 months after everyone else.

Re: Assume it was an auto box.

If it's servo assisted and the servo goes away it is MUCH harder to steer dumkopf! (thats kinda what the servo is there for!) - this apples to servo assisted breaks and steering

had you ever had a servo fail while driving then you would understand, clearly it hasn't happened, and you don't.

my car is fitted with a steering lock, and the lock is engaged when the ignition is turned off, and the steering wheel is turned more than a few degrees.

Naughtyhorse

Re: "he drove the car off the road when it ran out of petrol."

you are forgetting the computer that sits between all these things and the driver

computers going wrong...........

could happen i suppose :-D

Re: Assume it was an auto box.

Disabled guy suddenly expected to put in 10x the control input to either break or stop at 200km/h???

what could possibly go wrong.

re: electronic keys: my mondy has keyless ignition (the fob needs to be more or less in the car, for the start button to work) and i recently tested it, leaving the engine running and strolled off with the fob in my pocket - no effect (sensibly - imagine it got carelessly chucked out of the window on a motorway)

havent tried pressing the start button while moving, but i would not be at all surprised if that had no effect either.

(note to self: try giving the start button a prod the next time you are on an otherwise deserted road)

RTFA

the test was for the charging stations _not_ the car.

Naughtyhorse

Re: An idea springs to mind

charging via a wire takes forever, via wireless, that will be forever^2

add 20% to the ammount of juice requred for a charge (that goes out as heat)stick a bit more weight and complexity into the car, to make it even crapper.

both test drives of muskmobiles that come to mind, hilight the fact that the claims made by the manufacturer are total and utter bollocks, it wont go that fast, for that long on that charge, or charge that quickly.

could be a coincidence, but it does strike me that the car is not fit for purpose, and the company is full of shit.

Re: @proto-robbie

hmmm, i saw some guy on tv last night talking abiut this.....

we have more guns, and we have way more killing in this country than anywhere elsin in the world that inst a warzone.

it's not hard to make the connection.

less guns would mean less killing.

now who was he?

chief of pittsburg police, so it's not like he would have the vaguest idea of what he was talking about. I mean it's not like he was some brain dead 'B' list guitar player from 30 years ago....

if you dont get it, then i cant be bothered to explain it to you, i'll just wait till you comer up against a McVeigh, then your lack of understanfing wont matter.

Re: Variable Relays

protection relay settings will be matched to the CT being used to measure the line current, it's quite easy to misconfigure this (in the same way it's quite easy to login as root and walk away from the terminal! - easy, but very embarrasing)

If the relay was expecting 5A as a full scale current, but the CT provided 10A at full scale, then the relay would trip much earlier than expected.

Re: What a load of self serving tosh..

And what if people don't WANT Google to have that insight?

then dont use google - it's a bit glib, but it does answer all those concerns.

as for the date rape scenario... all that can happen without google (thinking of the creepy guy who was the landlord of a murder victim in the uk and ended up having to go into hiding - totally innocent, just looked like a serial killer) - and paranoid much btw?

your national security point, seems to have more of a beef with the NSA and the patriot act (quite rightly) than _any_ merkin company.

as for tracking - i'd concede the point that trying to dress google commerical advantage up as a public service is hightly disingenuous, but it does somewhat beg the question - if google arent using my location information to provide a better service, in order to keep my eyeballs on their ad platform, what are they doing with it? (paranoid much, and you dont have to use them!)

And as for trust, it seems to me that we know what googles ulterior motive is - money. but the (american) president has just spent 2 BEEEEEELION dollars to get a $500,000 a year job. what's that all about?

certainly not A+, but D- is a bit harsh

they showed some initiative, somewhat misguided i'll concede, but nonetheless initiative.

stick a white hat on them and they could turn out to be of some benefit to mankind.

agreed, to a certain extent, but ECT and most (particularly older) anti-psychotics are barbaric.

true less barbaric than the conditions they treat/mask, but barbaric nonetheless.
