Oracle suit outs Google's closed source Android tactics

Thumb Down

It isn't in FLOSS

I completely disagree with the implication that Nokia's failure with Maemo is somehow related to it being developed in open. The only cause of their upcoming demise (no, I don't believe their self-sacrifice on the Microsoft's altar will be enough to save WM7) is complete idiocy and lack of focus of their leadership far far before Mr. Elop took reins (and no, he didn't help it either).

You have rewrite ....

Read http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/fog0000000339.html and http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/APIWar.html ... Microsoft wants to give on that damn HTML/Js/CSS which they control and return back to their lovely arms of locking in APIs, .Net and other crap.

You should throw away everything you have and rewrite to their blood sucking APIs.

Good luck!

They have developed THREE operating systems in meanwhile

That's Maemo, Meego, and the open source version of Symbian. Oh well.

Which one do you mean?

From the very long series of blunders they've made in the past five years?

It is much worse ...

> ... had Nokia's management got their shit together, it'd be in actual mass-market products by now.

I saw first N800s in 2007 at the GUADEC conference and my first reaction (as everybody else, who was at the conference and wasn't employed by Nokia) was: "Why in the world Nokia didn't put cellphone chip to this ... this would be absolutely awesome phone." Maybe N800 would be just a research phone (as N900 is now), but in 2010 they would have real selling platform which would give Android run for its money. Oh well.

Flash?

It's either flash or Javascript (either in the website/blog editor), but I always tend to blame flash as a source of all evil. And yes, if you are on Linux, one look at top would help.

Slowness

Try to compare startup of Firefox in safe mode (i.e., switch off all extensions) is it still slower?
