I can think of a few; water, energy, press regulation. They are all captured to some extent. But you have to remember they are commercial businesses and operate in their interests. That is not always the same as every consumers interest.
I can think of a few disasters like this. One where there was a massive gap between what was promised and delivered that led to termination. A friend told me the integrator had written up internally a positive case study on the same project. Big difference between promises and detail design after contract signature. Most companies unlike governments can hide these as sunk costs; CAPEX rich and blurred by EBITDA reporting.
Expenses in corporates are a nightmare. They pay layers of internal people and external agencies to make it as difficult as possible to claim expenses. They are incentivised to reduce YoY expenses and really could'nt give a damn about being paid back in timely fashion. It takes hours to make claims and they use your personal credit to help with cashflow. I set aside a half a day for scanning and attaching and printing expenses and got forbid you mislay a receipt or catch a taxi at the wrong time of day. All they do is waste time and piss of staff for no reason.
So by messaging he means some sort of enterprise service bus was taken down ? also a power surge protection is normal so what went wrong with the switchover to redundant power? The hints from this a bit like the Talk Talk hack suggest something very simple and not some unavoidable impossible to understand failure they would like to media steer us towards.
What jumped out was that she used revenue and not returns on investment or bottom line. If you look at all the operators bottom lines, given the level of investment, they are abysmal. If you look at 3s investment and returns its madness. I wonder if she is prepared to invest in mobile operators because its a futile business to be in.
I would have thought as an economist she would have had a different view regarding economic profits attracting investment.
Saw a funny BBC editorial that said Google might quit Europe and suggesting this would be dire. Really ? All that ad words Internet sales tax dosh from small and large business's, I don't think so I am sure others would fill the hole pretty quick. I think the point of the news sharing is its another Google market distortion paid for by the ad words monopoly.
Remarkable they can launch at such short notice an attack that works so comprehensively and defeats virus protection. So in a nutshell where an organisation has anyone who opens an attachment they are then compromised. They can they penetrate any organisation through such on the face of it simple technique as spear fishing. Seems every organisation to me should be looking at where packets are send and who by. Perhaps quarantining far more where suspicious.
Means Peering so suggesting equality, not really that when Neflix, Comcast are so big is it? @ James that is what the EU regulation provides; any restrictions need to be in back and white and notified to the the consumer. Problem in the US is that there is so little Service provider competition in the USA. Time for the baby bells again?
Sad day if you know what happended to Rowntrees and Terry's. Seems to be a sovereignty point here the governemnt has given up the ability to act in national interest vis-a-vis take overs so we the public cannot influcnce our representatives to get the decision we want for a business that is in the UK. I think we need a "final solution" for highly leveraged business's and bankers that provide no social worth.
