Local radio stations band together against DAB

Markius
Happy

IIt's a good quality radio in the MINI. I have the same car and the same DAB radio. I spend most of my driving time in and around London and the home counties. Coverage is as good as I got on the FM radio in my old car. Of course, if you're tuned into the Essex multiplex and you drive to Hampshire you will lose the signal. That's no different to FM.

What I like about DAB is the enhanced choice. FM (with a few exceptions) seems to be filled with the same 10 commercial stations no matter where you are. The same playlists, the same message and even the same jingles in a lot of cases. DAB has a lot more smaller stations available and gives me access to a much wider range of music.

In my opinion DAB is not as good as FM - it's better.

Welcome

EAPOL is your friend

802.1x is familiar to many for wireless networking but it's also possible to do this on your wired Ethernet too. If the connecting device doesn't have the appropriate certificate and private key you can dump it into a dirty VLAN.

Just remember to check that your private keys aren't exportable - I found an unauthorised iPhone connected to an 802.1x WLAN once because the user was smart enough to export the key and certificate from his desktop and import it on the fondleslab.

active users

I think you'd be surprised how many users there really are.

It's election day in the UK today and as a result Facebook have put a link on every UK user's home page that allows the user to indicate that they have voted. Attached to this link is a counter. It's 2035L, polls opened at 0700L. The counter currently stands at 1,465,758.

That's nearly 1.5 million unique users in 1 day, in 1 country, _minimum_!

Mr

I thought Microsoft Outlook blocked executable attachments... since the introduction of Outlook 2002 or possibly earlier. Outlook 2007 even disables links in messages from unknown senders.

Of course, security features can always be left turned off - often on the laptops of tech-savvy IT staff ;)

Another happy BE customer

I've been with BE for about 14 months on an LLU exchange (Maidstone). I get a sync of 12Mbps and reliable 1.1MB/sec down 100KB/sec up. It's been at that speed from the off and I haven't experienced any slowdown.

I've been very impressed with their technical support...

My line stopped routing on xmas day morning even though it was still synced - I contacted BE support via their text chat service and told them this. They took care of the issue while I was eating my turkey and sprouts without me needing to do anything more.

It's so refreshing to be able to get through to technical support people who are actually technical and not simply reading from a script.

I've used BT, Demon and Easynet in the past... BE spanks them all!
