Financial watchdogs want to know what traders are talking about on WhatsApp

Yet Another Anonymous coward Silver badge

Re: Disappearing messages

>But in reality, every message is stored in an easily searchable indexed database.

No that would be illegal. They merely store "metadata", like the frequency and order of words in your message

Yet Another Anonymous coward Silver badge

Re: Off channel comms

Terribly inefficient in the sub-ms world of high frequency trading.

Unless you played golf on the PC, but then there would be a competition for who could have the golf computer closest to the golf server

Re: Disappearing messages

Assuming every message and its key isn't copied to the mothership and stored decrypted there.

If you didn't build whatsapp from source - you don't know what it does (and sometimes not even then)

Yet Another Anonymous coward Silver badge

Re: Question - how?

It doesn't have to - it just has to tell the banks to do it.

If the law says, traders can't swap inside information - then the banks can't turn around and say "sorry they use Whatsapp, there is nothing we can do"

Re: Is there a problem with VR?

>- porn (mainstream but not sensible)

Tricky unless it's CGI

If you are filming a live actor you can only VR to the view recorded by the camera.

I can't see the value in being able to experience the 'performers' POV and have them turn round and see the crew (although rule 34) but to do this you would need another crew recording the first crew....

Hey Mr rich banker.

You know those records that you uploaded to us and legally have to keep for years?

Well the bill just went up to $1Bn, or there is a $100bn charge to download them.

That doesn't mean the backdoors weren't there.

Neither, Global Britain will use proper British telecoms equipment made from Bakelite at Dollis Hill.

Re: Not sOutlook, on the other hand, is impossible to fucking kill. ure I agree about that...

We just got orders from corporate IT not to use Outlook locally and to delete any PST files.

I'm assuming somebody got caught with saved evidence of something that the Office365 version could have deleted.

All the Office365/Teams/sharepoint stuff works perfectly from Edge under Linux.

Ironically it's mostly hardware that need to keep a Windows dual-boot, there are no good CAD / FPGA / PCB tools under Linux

We got smart plugs for our monitors.

Our remote desktop software requires the displays to be on or it can't use the GPU (don't ask) but somebody decided it wasn't green to have a dozen LCDs on overnight, so we got a bucket load of landfill Amazon smart plugs and everyone spent a day trying to pair them with their phones

Sony, Honda collaborate on 'premium' electric vehicles that are born in the USA

Yet Another Anonymous coward Silver badge

Honda only offers a single EV currently, and it's not for sale in North America.

So obviously Honda are marketing toward Real American (tm) Men who buy pickup trucks and don't want any of those emasculating EVs from overly woke marques like Ford or GM
