It isn't necessarily corruption -- the manufacturers write the contract and the committee don't have the staff to read and understand them, and the contract comes in 30min before the end of the funding cycle.

The fact that this is 'normal' is due to the unique way in which our political campaigns are funded

Lots of telescopes makes a lot of sense with the reduced launch costs

The model of Hubble: A shuttle launch costs $1bn so need to make sure the mission can't fail, so the telescope costs $1bn and takes decade. Then you need to make it serviceable so that costs another $1bn and puts it in a crap orbit

Or make 10 telescopes on a common spacecraft bus for a fraction of the cost, launch them every 1-2 years with improved detectors on a cheap commercial rocket - all for the price of one Hubble service mission.

It's still more productive, used properly, than just writing the code - just think of it as a higher-higher level langauge

It's a tool that you have to learn to use.

Getting copilot to write the outline framework or to generate boiler plate for a typical operation is better than searching stackoverflow coding it from memory

You have to learn how to phrase the requests, just like you had to learn the correct magic incantations to the C++ compiler

The point of "learning to code" in school, and the point of the Pi isn't to produce programmers it's to produce citizens (and conceivably cabinet ministers) who understand what a computer is, how it works and what it can and importantly cannot do.
