There was a design flaw on the original model, the avionics bay was directly underneath the toilet and galley at the front, any "dripage" led to dead electronics which caused a couple of accidents.

IIRC there was a proposal by the guy behind the Thrust2 supersonic car to do this in europe.

A fleet of cheap to run efficent turbo-props using the small grass airfields that surround every major city and industrial area in europe (as a result of an earlier abortive attempt to european integration)

The idea was that you booked a flight, turned up with no airport screening delay and flew to within a couple of miles of your destination where an uber was waiting for less than a business ticket

10 years ago I could dial into a call with my US colleagues.

Now the first 30mins of each meeting is spent trying to remember the passwd for the conference room skype-for-business account, then nobody can remember who set it up and what email address they used for the password reset. then we have 5mins of emailing each other regular skype account names and sending new connection requests to each other.

Then we have a couple of minutes of wondering why we can't hear much and finding out that the conference table speaker/mic has been ignored in favour of the one on the webcam in the corner

Sometimes I wonder if video conferencing will be replaced by morse code or smoke signals

Used to be perfectly normal. You had to post your passport off for a visa for most countries, which in the pre-internet days, often took a couple of weeks to process. So if you were travelling a lot on business, especially in the ME/Africa you had to have several UK passports just because most of them were in the post at any given moment.

Apart from having to keep separate Israel/South Africa/Communist country ones.

It would only take a couple of lines of OpenCV or scikit-image to recognise the difference between terrorists and freedom fighters so long as they can be persuaded to point their assault rifles in the air.
