Unless they can do something really impressive like a permanent manned base, which is expensive to resupply, all they would be doing is spending billions to say to the world "China, only 60 years behind America!"

Unless you are the sort of cynic who thinks that Amazon, after making an "investment" roughly equal to their tea-money budget, are going to say. "We are fully committed to Patriotic American Nukular / Green Carbon-free Power (delete with current Whitehouse)" but while we are waiting we need to just install a few GW of "temporary" gas turbines on this site we already have power plant permitting for.
