I was going for - he somehow managed to use an extension lead to join two phases.

We had a server basement broom cupboardroom where somebody needed a couple more 240v outlets and so had knocked a hole in the drywall and run an extension from another room - on a different phase. Server and monitor on 415V difference in supply - strangely nothing went wrong.

I always figured this "augmented reality" stuff would be great for overlaying diagrams of hardware (like engines and gas turbines) on the real hardware

Trouble is that displaying the instructuons over the top of complex parts make them impossible to read.

You either have to set some white background around the text and diagrams, or the user is forced to move to 'look' at some blank wall to read them

There is a small difference between training it on a set of mugshots of predominantly black suspects and then letting it loose on cctv of the Notting Hill carnival - and training it on high quality full-face ID cards and then comparing them to well lit full-face scanning machines.

If they are allowed to take samples of your piss and watch to make sure you have the right set of dangly bits for your sport - I don't think civil liberties are really a concern

NASA is really good about open sourcing stuff.

Back in my day (Hubble) all the processing software was open source, we were 'strongly discouraged' from using any proprietry libraries like NAG, all the science data is publicly available.

Most of the hardware is designed by contractors so the designs for eg. a space shuttle, don't necessarily belong to NASA.

In my experience they do, each gate has a highly trained "border security facilitator" in a hi-vis vest telling you to go to the next empty gate. Where another tells you to wait cos they are just rebooting the system.

Although this could be a cunning and subtle plan. The e-gate doesn't actually have a link to a passport database, it simply listens for people making under their breath grumble about "oh for f... sake" but otherwise queuing quietly - they are obviously British and so are allowed in. Anybody who complains about the shear idiocy and inefficiency of the system is obviously a foreigner (and possibly German)

ZFS isn't available on Windows.. I think you mean NTFS (or possibly VFS)

I meant that ZFS has some of the capabilities of VMS filesystem, 30years later, and a bunch of more complicated improvements. But you still don't have such an easy user way of getting back previous versions of a file

Especially since DEC used to sell them below cost to push the NT license and to get people off VMS - for reasons that made sense to somebody you could buy an Alpha with NT for about 1/2 the price of the same HW with VMS !

So we bought the NT machines and installed Linux, almost 2x the power of a Sparc for 1/2 the price.

Remove revenge porn - but only with a court order, not using it as a way to ban all naughty bits

Understands that the platforms don't want to block bots, because it boosts their viewers, so need to be forced to.

Recognise that they manage to overcome the technical difficulties of VPN and spoofing when it's protecting their streaming service so they can put the same effort into foreign political advertising
