These reports also generally quote bugs / line of code, or bugs / feature point.

On the project I work on the Matlab prototype is one function call, the only possible bug in my code is to get the order of the matrix rows/cols the wrong way round (fscking Matlab)

The python version is 3 lines of code - I need to create some input arrays

The production version is a few 100 lines of highly optomised C++ calling 100s more lines of complex CUDA kernel. It took a year to build. Although it does run at 60fps instead of 1 frame/cup of coffee

The bugs/line of code might be the same - that doesn't make the language choice irrelevant

In practice though, even if you managed to avoid any US (or foreign subsidiary of US corp) software, hardware, OS etc - if you are in the satelite building game you probably rely on the US govt for other things.

So unless you want to do a total break from any western defence/aerospace business you will listen to their 'politely worded objections' to your exports.

The point of the sodimm is to pack a lot of i/o pins into a small form factor with cheap available sockets that lock and can lie flat on a PCB

Using a PCIe socket doesn't have any advantages, using a PCIe bus means you don't have any of the GPIO pins. these are industrial controllers not blade servers.

Except in truecrypt's case you could. The first N bytes of each encrypted volume, hidden or not were a known value encrypted with the chosen algorithm (so it could detect which algorithm was used)

Of course you could say that it was a pure coincidence that the big block of random number filled "unused" space on your drive happened to begin with the AES encryption of "truecrypt" - but it probably would be enough to get a warrant.

I suspect this is a major selling point. With this $$$ upgrade our HR software is completely incapable of calculating anything that will get you into trouble.

I worked in the mathematical modelling group of a consultancy, most people had come from academic jobs or fresh PhDs and the salary was based on your last pay + small %

The business development consultants had all come from banking jobs and started on 3-4x as much - although they never seemed to book any sales. In the end all the techies left and the company folded.

It happens in govt jobs and the military - pay grades are all known and published.

No major or senior-scientific-officer gets paid twice as much as another because their previous job was at a bank rather than a charity
