That could explain the Fermi paradox.
Any advanced species refuses to throw away their childhood Lego. If the amount of Lego doubles each generation, after a few 100 generations they reach 3+ Solar masses and their toy cupboards all collapse into a black hole.

The limit on building a lego mountain (or any other mountain) would be plastic flow of the rock slumping out into a shallower wider pile of rock (or lego)
Obviously, because the USA, being outside Oz, doesn't exist. The Galaxy is mostly visible from the southern hemisphere (we wait confirmation of the round/flat earth debate from the Official Govt Science Bruce) and so is therefore part of Oz
There are no other countries, God made Oz and it's perfect so didn't need to make any others.

A fab costs $MAX_INT to build - so you need to run your declining asset at 100% and presumably raw materials aren't a huge cost.
Similarly the high cost staff are in the design/tuning/process control end, not zero hours contract people you can scale down.
If you run the fab you know industry trends for how long the current DRAM/NAND design will be saleable before it's obsolete.
So in a downturn like 2020 wouldn't you run at some capacity making parts for stock, even if not at 3 shifts + overtime?
At least if you are a Hynix or Micron who own the fab rather than a TSMC making other people's stuff.
There are lots of issues launching horizontally from planes, Pegasus has been failing at them for 25+years. Admittedly it's a lot easier for microsats but reusable rockets may have already 'won'.

But it would be an option to connect remote communities.
Why are we running 100km of fibre to this hamlet? Because we get a subsidy of $1M/km to lay fibre.
Why not just pay for people's starlink subscription? Because paying for services for a citizen is communism.
Why not put a starlink ground station in and share it ? Because some of the customers are first nations so that's federal, the school is municipal, and the police are state funded. You can't mix levels of government, that's what caused the civil war.
I rather think that's the point.
Having gained the ability to recognise crosswalks and parking meters - the only way to distinguish between AI and mere humans will be to ask if combinations such as "Fruit cake and cheddar cheese" go together.
If the AIs get any smarter they will be asking us about seeing a turtle on its back in the sun and not helping it
