If you want a USB thumb drive wiped, try asking an arts student for help

Andraž 'ruskie' Levstik

Hmmm people put sensitive data on tiny, easy to lose things that you can plug in any system? *shudder*

I'll stick to having stuff stored on my own server, on my own property that I can access anywhere via ssh and other secure methods and if need be can copy to a different location.

My uses for USB flash drives:

- random bootable linux distro 1

- random bootable linux distro 2

- random bootable linux distro 3

Installers/etc... for stuff I might need to be using in an enviroment without good online connection,

err... random music/vids/etc....

Re: There was never a need for a combined currency all over Europe

Been thinking the same(for a long time). There should be the Euro but it should be a currency on top of national currencies with an exchange rate relative to them. People could still pay with it, get paid with it but it should always be relative to the national currency(until such a time as it would make the optimal currency area a sense).

As for the EU... I'm still on the fence. It did do some good things but at the same time some bad things. Will see how it goes.

Euro phone, broadband giants are the 1% – yes, single-digit growth. Wow

Andraž 'ruskie' Levstik

Re: Why is less than 2 digit growth looked on as failure?

Sad but true... now-a-days a lot of companies are burn through whatever you can to get the most profit then ditch and start fresh.

And to add on top of that... very few companies will bother to try and pickup the pieces as well. There is a company here that recently got their primary production assets seized by the tax agency because they couldn't pay worker benefits for a while. Why couldn't they pay them you ask? Because the state owes them a lot of money.

What did they do? They grabbed the old machines and in a day they were back up and working aiming to get all their orders sorted so they can keep the 200 or so people employed. This is missing in a lot of companies. The drive to keep it going, to keep people employed.

Euro consumers have TOO MUCH choice – telco operators

You know you are stupid if you enter your credit card number or real details into a low security environment such as a gaming network(that includes steam, xbl, etc...).

I'm still using topup cards from game stores to buy stuff there. I'll never put in a credit card(or at most a prepaid thing that has 0 value 99% of the time and that I use up the moment it's loaded).

Sailfish OS tablet is GO: Fans stuff cash into Jolla's cap in hand

Andraž 'ruskie' Levstik

The Jolla devices have AlienDalvik that can run Android Apps don't ask me how it performs because I have yet to bother using it.

But yeah bought the phone half a year ago, kicktstarted the other half KEYBOARD addon(el-reg report about this as well both are running at the same time even):

And now indiegogoed the tablet.

For my own uses the phone is perfect and the user experience is something I miss from all other devices so far. I was hoping for the longest time for a tablet from them as well... they seem to have a clue/ideas on how to make user experiences that are great and that are intuitive once you break the chains of the android/ios limitations.

Australia deflates Valve with Steam sueball

Andraž 'ruskie' Levstik

Not fit for purpose...

Valve can just adjust that sure we will provide refunds under the conditions that game ending achievment has not yet been achieved and in 14 days have not passed since day of purchase. I think that would be reasonable as a valid refund policy.

Considering that some games can start off well enough but will eventually degenerate into a PoS that makes them unplayable.

On side effects

Until it is proven these things don't have any side effects on second hand vapers I'd prefer they are relegated to the same spot as normal cigs.

And from my personal experience with someone in the office trying to use the e-cig a couple of times I felt poorly after that. So it certainly isn't just water vapour. There is enough in there that can cause issues in the short term.

I'm not opposed to letting people enjoy what they want. I'm just opposed to having it affect others or myself.

New Development. Where do we go?

Andraž 'ruskie' Levstik

You could try Python

Instead of .NET/Java/etc... could try with a Python backend/framework. Then use whatever DB you want that is supported(either noSQL or SQL evaluate what works for you). And I agree HTML 5 for the web frontends if any and possibly QT and WFP(since I don't believe QT is supported on the new interface yet) for any other clients.

Valve shows Linux love with SteamOS for gamers

Andraž 'ruskie' Levstik

Re: Who is ready to pay

I guess you missed all the humble bundles where the linux part of the buyers consistently pay more than their windows and mac counterparts. Believe it or not we don't use Linux because it's free... we use it because it's better for what we need it for.

As for changing things yeah. Will see what will come of it. I'd certainly buy a steambox if they offered one. But I'm not in the mood(and haven't been in the mood for years) to manage any decently speced box for gaming.

Most of my hardware is based around needing the minimal to get the job done.
