Its a shame the country won't finally get to see Mitt's tax returns.

Look out! Peak wind is coming, warns top Harvard physicist

compdoc

thats nice but..

Arent we decades away from making any kind of impact on the wind? Its not like there's a windmill in every person's backyard. This conversation seems a bit premature. Please, build thousands more windmills and get back to me...

Salt marshes will suck CO2 from air faster and faster as seas rise

compdoc

Re: Yep, the Doomsayers models are too simple.

The only fiasco is the amount of CO2 we've been pumping into the environment. Not to mention the other pollutants into the air and seas. I remember a time when the oceans off California were pristine and you could see to the bottom. No longer. The planet is trashed, and the poles are melting. It might already be too late and yet there are still people around that think the whole 'global warming' thing was just some hoax designed to take our money. Incredibly shortsighted. Incredibly dumb.

Arctic ice panics sparked by half-baked sat data

compdoc

damn the public!

The public sees less ice at the poles, and higher than average daily temps, and coastal areas flooding and beaches disappearing, and fires making deserts out of forests, and changes in climate like drought, and they think to themselves - global warming! What a bunch of idiots this public is! We know better though - we know its ok to pump billions of tonnes of gasses into an ecosystem that's going through a warming cycle. Cant possibly affect it!

Global warming: It's GOOD for the environment

compdoc

Isnt the problem fewer forests?

I do believe CO2 is good for plants, but what good is more CO2 when man is chopping down the trees for heating and cooking and creating grasslands for raising meat? I live in the American West and we're losing miles upon miles of forest due to forest fires.

No, Global Warming will not save us.

EU's 2020 CO2 target 'will add a year to economic slump'

compdoc

gee, difficult decision...

...continue to send tonnes of pollutants into the air while breaking your agreements, or add a year to the recovery.

...allow dirty industries to stay dirty, or add a year to the recovery.

...pass our problems on to our children, or add a year to the recovery.

...possibly cause the death of us all, or add a year to the recovery.

God, such hard decisions! And amazing how much value is placed on so short a length of time.

Global warming helps Arctic algae suck CO2

Maybe the bloom is happening because we've fished out the krill and pretty much everything else that might feed on it.

Study: The more science you know, the less worried you are about climate

Why all these dumb articles about how safe we are?

Everything is fine. Mankind in his multitudes has no effect on the planet. Its OK to pollute and wipe out species after species. Go ahead and burn your trash and fossil fuels, and cut down the forests. Its fine to pump chemicals from lawns & farms, and human hormones and medicines into the sea. Don't notice the humans killing each other over resources around the world. Those people being washed away in massive floods, and land being swallowed by the sea are nothing to worry about. Everything is fine.

Adaptec - the eternal wannabe

compdoc

I would still buy Adaptec...

I trust Adaptec controllers and have used them many times, and I would still buy them if they had better Linux support.

With Linux I find you're far better off buying hardware it already supports and has drivers for, rather than struggling with adding a driver. Sometimes adding a driver is easy, and sometimes it requires compiling the kernel. And other times you risk breaking your OS by having to install a newer version of some dependency that's not meant to run on your older kernel.

The last Adaptec sas/sata raid controller I bought (over a year ago now) was so much trouble to get working with a linux server, that I used it on a Windows Server instead - on which it works very well.

For me, it's 3ware: bolt it in, install centos or what have you, add four green 2TB drives, and you have a lot of raid5 storage for not much money, and not much electricity burned a day...
