Windows Phone overtakes Apple's market share ... in India

Maybe companies should only brag about their sales of overpriced commodities to 1st world users?

Boffins FREEZE PHONES to crack Android on-device crypto

Very interesting but somewhat redundant?

Most phones are secured with a 4 character pin that usually consists numbers would make brute force a much more promising approach.

Google promises autonomous cars for all within five years

I work in the aviation industry and the second biggest reduction in crashes, after the invention of the gas turbine, was taking control away from the pilots.

A modern passenger aircraft will fly and land itself with no input from the two meat bags positioned in the room with the best view. There is a TV show "air crash investigation" where you get ample opportunity to see the chain of events leading to some of our worst incidents, and it will shock you the number of events that are directly caused by the crew or at least compounded by their actions.

A flight crew is rigorously trained with hours of simulated failure scenarios and still they make mistakes. Now compare that to some of the the fuckwits on the road.

Bring on automation, it will lower deaths and serious injury's, reduce insurance costs and taxi you home when you have had 6 pints of old peculiar in the lazy cock on a Friday night

How about getting mains gas and sewerage here first. As it is i can get quite alot downloaded in the 2 hours spent dyno rodding some brown blockage.

iPhone 5: skinny li'l fella with better display, camera, software

Thinnest phone?

The Huawei Ascend P1 S is 6.68mm thick, the Oppo Finder is 6.65mm, and the ZTE Athena is 6.2mm thick so the iPhone 5 is obviously not the thinnest

Valve opens Steam store to non-gaming software

Re: no thanks

The main difference between the 2 walled gardens is the choice you make to use them.

You buy an Idevice and you really need to use Itunes

you but a PC you may never use Steam, but many people are happy with there balance between DRM and convienence

The main reason I still have a Windows dual boot is for gaming, if Steam really does bring some great titles to Linux it will save me the investment in whatever version of Windows comes after 8

Thanks for correcting me.

Re: Smaller still means hotter right ?

Smaller does not mean hotter?

One of the advantages to buying smaller nm CPU is less current leakage, so less power is required, so less heat is generated.

Hands on with the Apple iPad 3

eye strain

"Text is super-sharp, the jagged edges of letters quite invisible. It stops reading e-books being the strain on the eyes"

So eye strain is not caused by backlit displays but by low resolution text. better tell all the kindle owners they wasted there money

Boffins boost battery life with underclocked Wi-Fi

location based settings are already available

Have a gander on android market for a app called "llama" (location aware mobile app)

its has quite alot of options you can play with to toggle various phone settings depending upon location and time.

For me it turns on wifi when I get home, turns on my bluetooth for 3 mins when I leave home or work so that if i get in my car it auto connects to my hands free system. turns off bluetooth when car hands free disconnects and no other bluetooth device is connected.

I think the part in this article about this new WiFi method saving 54% of smartphone battery cant be correct, as system monitering of my phone shows that wifi is only responsible for 12% of battery usage. So I assume it will actually save 54% of that 12% used by the wifi thus actually saving only 6% of my total battery usage....

Still, interesting article.

Anyone want to have a guess as to how much our technological advancement has been hindered by patent laws?

I have nothing against people making money, but make that money for what you do not what you think you can do in the future.

Death by 30% cut: Apple app tax must change

Pass The cost To The Consume

Why these companys selling through apple do not pass the 30% on to the consumer is beyond me.

The company would no linger be out of pocket from the sale, and the consumer would have the choice if they want to pay a 30% markup for the convienience of purchasing via apple.

Googlephone facing 10m more Jobsian challengers?

"The Googlephone may be coming, but Apple's commanding lead won't be easy to overcome"

And what commanding lead would that be?

because its certainly not top of the league table when it comes to smart phones features!!!

And as for sales it seems the iphone is behind both nokia and rim.
