Not Dot Matrix...

1401 had a 1403 chain printer. As far as I recall it printed at 600 lines a minute. 132 characters wide.

Patience is a virtue

When everyone hits the servers all at once, it goes slow and sometimes fails. What's new???. Just wait a bit for the rush to dies down. BTW my IPAD update was slow then failed then I restarted , restored and it worked just fine the second time.

Also as a Home router

Good little box, I have been fed up with my up and down unfixable broadband. So I cancelled the landline contract and got this instead on '3". Now I have 2 Macs and an iphone /ipod all connected together on the same network. The wi fi signal is pretty good across 2 floors in my house. Yes it is a bit fiddly to start but I just keep it running all day on a power plug.

Happy days

Great article, Must go to the Museum soon to see a 1401 working again, maybe I'll get a chance to fix it if it breaks. I was a IBM customer engineer in the 60's and we looked after 1401's and other stuff (1440,60 and1620's as well as accounting machines) in the 60's in central London, then on to System/360. What a wonderful time it was. PS yes I remember ICL wavy line printers . You've made my day..
