The DPA makes no allowance for encrypted data. If you're storing names, addresses or personally identifiable information, you ARE subject to the DPA and cannot move that data out of a "known" zone. So a datacentre is fine but "the Cloud" - which means your data sits somewhere within a whole region and not in a place you can give an address for - is a breach and can be prosecuted. And will be. The DPA is enforced pretty hard.

If it were feasible, partially. It wouldn't save you from the Data Protection Act though.

That is also an issue. And in order to stay safe, you'd have to run the decryption at your local end which is a computational expense you might want to avoid.
Oh, quite, which is why I personally do not recommend cloud computing except in cases - for example, my current employer has requested a feasibility study on keeping energy usage and visualisation data on AWS or Azure - where the data is already safely anonymized and cannot be identified without data kept on-premises (or rather, in our data centre).
But this article is about uptime and the loss thereof, not data security. And all of the whining on this large thread is also about uptime and at least half of it is clearly from people with no fucking clue whatsoever which goes to prove that the Reg is still popular with 1st Line Support drones, I suppose.

I see a lot of pissing and moaning here but the problem with Cloud is data protection, not uptime. Pretty much every alternative has worse uptime.

A slightly alternative view (but with similar conclusions) -
I eat meat and don't care about animals that aren't my responsibility. If I have a dog, it's my responsibility. If I am a farmer (not anymore, thank everything) then my livestock are my responsibility and a part of that responsibility involves killing any other animals that want to prey on my animals either directly (foxes, etc) or indirectly (badgers, etc). I'll cheerfully kill a member of another species without a second thought or a twinge of conscience because fuck it, I'm an animal too and animals kill each other. Until somebody proves to me how predators (like us) are all big hippy friends who love each other very much, I don't see any of that changing.
PETA's actions indicate to me that they are taking responsibility for this monkey. That means they're going to have to either take it out of its environment (something I gather they oppose) or go to its environment and a) provide food for it because you can't count on the stuff showing up by itself and b) systematically slaughter every predator that wants to kill and eat the monkey.
So I'd let the court case go forward - after they've shown that they are responsible monkey owners by fulfilling the conditions above.

And don't say "well, that's clearly an edge case" because if your system is going to kill people, there can be no edge cases. There can be no blurring of lines and no shades of grey. Everyone, by your system, must be innocent or dead. You need a perfect system and absolute knowledge to create a legal structure of the type you say you want, or you just have Stalin and the gulags.

You probably don't need O365 then. You probably shouldn't buy it.
I use it but that's because it's a nice tax-deductible expense that helpfully allows me to keep phone, tablet, laptop, desktop monster and all the other half's iThings and Mac-stuff up to date with minimal effort (and she uses all of Office quite a lot).
I find I don't need Office all that often but when i need it, I really need it and Open/Libre will not cut it, by a very long way. So I use O365. Horses for courses.

A speech-delayed toddler and a 6 month-old baby don't deal too well with phones. I use Skype because of the video chat. As it happens, I did choose to use a phone after Skype repeatedly failed. Not a resounding success.
I'd happily pay the price of a phone call to get that video chat so they can see me and can respond in their preferred ways. As it was, I got "Hiyaaaaaa! burble burble burble Bye!"
