This is the reason (at least) ATT and Comcast have bandwidth caps. They are anticompetitive and someone with balls in the US government should investigate and stop it.
Oh, I forgot where we live. All three branches of our government are corrupt and the only "people" they work for are corporations.
How about a kid friendly Internet on top of the Internet? .kids or something like that. Have approved websites have a simple DNS redirect. So nickelodeon.com becomes nickelodeon.kids which seamlessly works when the kiddies type in nickelodeon.kids. It would be trivial to make a web filter proxy that only allows only .kids domains.
Then all the nanny groups can get together and decide what gets let in. All legitimate websites with content aimed at kids would scramble to get "approved".
The man sneaking chemicals through the scanner was fat enough to hide a pound or two of high explosives in his fat rolls. Neither infrared (shown here) nor mm-wave technology (the current panacea) would catch that.
Now imagine if someone was obsessed enough to have the explosives sewn into their body.
This is why software like Freenet http://freenetproject.org/ is going to be crucial in the coming years. It is not a proxy like TOR, but allows access to material found objectionable by some (which will be decided by the lowest common denominator. That is where these bans head.) The material cannot be taken down and access is anonymous.
It's a good think the Amish don't use the Internet. ;-)
Microsoft can start whittling away the dependencies by stripping out the DRM, hidden Internet Explorer hooks and publishing "all" the APIs.
Mark is a very smart man, I attribute a good portion of the improvements of 7 over Vista to him. His SysInternals utilities are an invaluable asset to any IT professional that has to work on Windows machines.
