MS discovers flaw in Google plug-in for IE

Thumb Down

Here, have a title, annoying thing

Well, we ARE talking about IE 6. It's amazing it still works and people/companies still use it.

Of course, what Microsoft wants to do is find a good enough excuse to say "Srry, mst remve plgn! Everyone must depend on IE, not your sucky, standards-compliant browser."

totally incompetent

So, they sat around and waited with fingers crossed for their sole software vendor to release a new (hopefully "better") OS instead of getting out and diversifying with new OSs that weren't Vista?

I would NEVER invest in this company. They did nothing to protect their stockholders' investment!

If I was the largest PC vendor in the world, I would make sure that I have at least two choices for everything, just in case a Vista comes along. So, even now they're failing to see where they're failing.

Google open sources flash-happy Chrome OS

"some" offline storage

I think it only has drivers for SSDs, so it can only boot from flash. That's pretty normal since it's initially aimed at netbooks.

As I understand it, it doesn't allow explicit offline storage. You can still use some webapps offline Gears-style, but all the magic happens in the cloud.

Anyway, think big, people! Google are aiming this at businesses rather than at home users -- they're betting they can sell bulk at cloud-happy companies who look to cut costs, while cutting Microsoft out of the equation. That's a sensible plan, anyway.

Google Chrome OS - do we want another monoculture?

interesting

Please don't forget that Google's greatest asset is its brand. They understand the "free" business model, and know that as long as they can keep their users happy they can depend on their loyalty (a business model that is a stark contrast to Apple's and Microsoft's, if you think about it).

I think the comparison to Apple is unfounded. Google will keep their webapps under control, of course, but don't care about the OS itself. The hardware support is limited, but the reasons for that should be clear: it's a Linux OS and can't install extra drivers.

I'm not the greatest fan of "the cloud" but think only good things can come from more players entering the OS market. If the competition can chip away even 35% of the reigning monopoly things may start to improve -- think OS wars instead of just browser wars. The consumer can reap the benefits of these giants fighting it out: better prices, faster software, better quality...

5 minutes??

No, the dance routine is absolutely contrived and fake. There must be something wrong with that guy's brain.

My first thought was, they better be paying those employees of theirs _very_ well.

Thumb Up

wow

I really look forward to this! I looove ARM assembly, and I'd love a real ARM computer to hack on instead of phones and DSs. With a price point like that, I say.. sold!

Of course Android will get wiped and Ubuntu will be installed first thing.

And no, I'd rather stay away from those Acorns. Nostalgia aside, they still give me nightmares.
