Damn...
it makes me wish I'd planned a day off in Brum. I'd have opened a stall up next to the Apple store and sold lives...
I'll get me (fireproof) coat...

A while back, they rang me up out of the blue to inform me that at the end of the month they were shutting down their 2G network and that I would have to get a new phone. No written warning - nothing but what was effectively a sales call. I told them I didn't want a 3G phone - all I wanted to do was make calls and I vastly preferred a 1 week battery life to a mutlicolour display - and to cancel my account. I even wrote with that effect.
So - the cut-off date rolled round and my phone went dead - but no sign of confirmation that my account had been cancelled. So to make damn sure, I cut off the direct debit from my end. This resulted in a years worth of hounding by various debt collectors - fortunately, all of whom backed off when I told them that the account was still in contention - as 3 tried to charge me for a further three months before finally honouring my cancellation request.
Fail, because... well, just because there's no other word for it.
I was in the penultimate year of the grant i.e.: before Liebour made a U-turn on their pledge to keep the grant - and looking back on it, I realise I should not have even made it into university, nevermind getting a degree! Some of the places I applied to wanted two E grades at A level - and these places are supposed to be the cream of the accademic crop!
The politicians seem to have it in whatever they have instead of brains that there should be "equality" - but we are all different, so a one-size-fits-all system is never going to work! Abolish tuition fees and bring back grants, and raise the entry requirements levels, so we end up with universities whose students are smart, want to study and are not burdened with having to cram in extra jobs or facing years of debt after graduating, rather than the free-for-all we have at the moment which has left degrees all but worthless and many in with debts that make the idea of work almost not worth their while, assuming they can actually get a job.
Fail. Because it's what the system has done. And, had the system been working, what I should have done.
We're in the same boat... it's almost as though people want to be hacked!
If IE6 is dead, I fear that the ghost of IE6-past will be around to haunt us for a long while yet. Probably until the day MS start implementing web standards on their browsers.
Beer - because I'll need one after swearing at IE6 CSS
"The government has announced an inquiry into the causes of the problems" - the government IS the cause of the problems. Had they not opened the floodgates to all (in the name of "equality", of course) by lowering entrance requirements and dumbing down A-levels, and kept university for the accademical elite, supported by grants where neccessary, there would have been no need for student loans in the first place, therefore this would never have happened.
But no. Can't have it so that there's a place where the brightest people can go to study further and become leaders in their fields. That's far to discriminatory against those less mentally able.
Fail - because that's what this government has done, ever since the grant was axed. And what, no doubt, this enquiry will do - except waste thousands of taxpayers pounds.
And what about people who buy modded consoles in order to play legitimately purchased games from overseas, because the suppliers have deemed them as "not commercially viable" on these shores?
Maybe this has changed since my console days (PS2), but I recall a number of titles which left me gnashing my teeth in fury upon finding out that there was no intention of european distribution, and my only option was to buy a modded console (which I couldn't afford at that point) and import...
Shouty - because even now, after all these years, I still am
... six to one supervisor instead of a more usual two or three to one parent. Makes me so glad that a) I'm already CRB checked and b) I'm moving away from Watford in the near future.
Fail - because it's what Watford is full of. And hopefully what will happen to this latest scatterbrained scheme.
