'He must be stopped': Missouri candidate's children tell voters he's basically an asshat

Re: Oops!

My wife and I both have Windows phone and they work very well. Microsoft made a mistake in stopping their phone business. BTW, what makes a cell phone the "greatest"? Yes, the apps are/were limited, but whos needs thousands of apps?

US Supreme Court blocks internet's escape from state sales taxes

TomG

This would only work if Amazon moved operations (totally) to Canada. If they still maintained a presence in the US they would still be subject to the tax rules.

TomG

Re: Death and Taxes

The firm making the sale has the responsibility to know the tax law. No excuses.

TomG

Re: Death and Taxes

At the risk of getting many downvotes, Windows. Seriously, the company from whom you buy your software will make the necessary corrections/additions. This will be available as a monthly download.

TomG

Re: "they wouldn't be states then."

Effectively, the Constitution is reviewed every time the Legislature is in sessions. It is called passing a law.

TomG

Re: Er ....

If you are referring to the sales tax software industry, that industry is alive and well.

TomG

Re: Yo! Yank ... Er ....

As a consumption tax the tax is due based on where the taxable item is consumed. Therefore if you ordered something from Minnesota while on vacation in Finland and had it shipped to your home in New Mexico, the New Mexico tax would be assessed.

TomG

Generally sales tax is a consumption tax and the tax is based on the location of the buyer. BTW, sales tax is a tax on the consumer, not the seller. The seller has the responsibility of collecting and remitting the tax.

TomG

Re: Er ....

As a former tax auditor, retired 15 years now, I was aware of several companies that made packages that would calculate the correct sales tax based on the location of the buyer.

"Rather than admit it helped put Donald Trump in the White House by endlessly broadcasting and writing up his rallies and speeches, " From my viewpoint, it seems that Hillary's inept campaigning put Donald Trump into the Whitehouse. Hillary's face was on the TV much more than Donald's in my part of the USA. She came across as shrill and unlikeable. ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC and CNN all seemed to have a Hillary preference.

TomG

Re: Does the report say how much they lose?

Since the consumer (you, the Apple product purchaser) is the one paying the cost by purchasing the Apple product you are the one that makes the decision as to whether it is useful or sensible.

I am of the opinion that many people that read the Register are not particularly technically adept. They read the comments for the humorous remarks. Therefor they are not concerned about being grammatically correct. Thanks for the laugh.

They would have to be very dysfunctional. Apple Lovers bond to their Apple product is very strong.

TomG

Re: Love 'em or hate 'em...

The solution to this is to buy computers and phones that can be repaired. Never mind, I forgot this article is aimed at Apple Lovers.

That is part of what makes America free. In the USA, people control the government, the government does not control the people.

Re: You can't legislate evil out of society

Don't understand why this post has 10 down votes. Do people really not understand that evil intent is independent of the means to carry out that evil intent?

Happy

Reading these comments, it strikes me that so many people want their cell phones to be exciting. Do they not have a life? They probably should look for something exciting than a phone. On the other hand, maybe I don't really understand cell phones. An improvement in battery life would be good though.

Re: Well, they could upgrade to WinPho 10s

The two Windows phone I have 640XL with 8.1 and 950 with Windows 10 work just fine. Primarily use them as a phone with occasional use to surf the internet, messaging and photography. Will never have an IPhone. Had two and both were junk. Maybe I just not a sophisticated cell phone user.

Constitution

It seems everyone thinks all the US government has to do to solve the gun situation is to activate the National Guard, have them go house to house and confiscate everyone's firearm. Please be aware we have a set of rules called the Constitution wherein is stated the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. If wholesale confiscation is the answer, then the rules have to be changed.

President Trump turns out the lights on solar panel imports into US

TomG

Re: That’s just one example

You seem to underestimate how large the electricity market is in the USA. Mexico probably could not fill the demand if they covered Mexico with solar panels.

TomG

Re: Decreasing coal exports

Since you seem privy to Trumps financial affairs, you should inform the appropriate legal officials and save us all.

TomG

Re: Wonder what the effect will be in the rest of the world?

Since you have to pay for the panels and the installation, the electricity is NOT free.

TomG

Re: a beautiful piece of legislation

The system, in the US of A is not broken, it works as it was designed to work. BTW, people must realize the President , and by extension, the Vice President are not elected by popular vote. They are elected by the Electoral College. Each state determines how the Electoral College representatives are determined. If you are in favor of the President and VP being elected by popular vote you must realize that Texas, California, Florida and New York voters will ALWAYS determine who is elected to these offices.

TomG

Re: Ontario, Canada doesn't have these problems . . .

It is my understanding there is a Federal election law that requires election officials to keep a hardcopy of election machine counts for two years.

TomG

Re: Ontario, Canada doesn't have these problems . . .

Easy to influence a Canadian election. Just prepare ballots marked to favor the person of your choice and then scan the ballots. Or, just lose a ballot box from a precinct in which the candidate you want to lose is favored.

Ford giving electric car investment a jolt to the tune of $11bn

They have billions of dollars invested in in plants and equipment used to manufacture ICE which will be useless in manufacturing electric cars.

Re: Does the US government know?

TomG

Re: Trump will want to be re-elected

Apparently you don't understand the Electoral College. The President does not get elected by the people.

Re: In «America» ?

Been living in the good old USA for 78 years. Never met anyone that got "their knickers all knotted up when anybody points out that theirs is only the second-largest country on that continent". BTW, it is generally accepted that the TWO Americas are comprised of two continents.
