Re: $43m and 137 staff is an SME

Agreed. I was interested to look up the definition, "The European definition of SME follows: "The category of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is made up of enterprises which employ fewer than 250 persons and which have an annual turnover not exceeding 50 million euro, and/or an annual balance sheet total not exceeding 43 million euro""

Re: Blue screens of Fail.

I think this driver release dropped support for your old card - that's why it's faster for everyone else.... DX10 supporting cards are cheap on eBay, but I can understand why you might be annoyed at this state of affairs!

LynxOS

I remember cross compiling code from AIX to LynxOS for various embedded systems - looked them up and glad to see they're still going:

http://www.lynuxworks.com/rtos/rtos.php

I'm sure they'll be overjoyed with the realisation that they may now have two products (Lynux and LynxOS), both of which aren't a million miles away from other operating system names.

Developed by Southampton university

So it was developed by Southampton Uni, who passed it over for Oxford to switch it on and use it, with the same analytical skills they clearly have. I think that Southampton seem to have missed out a little here, happily handing over their idea and device.

Re: Google Earth still exsists

There are other mapping apps, I use GAIA GPS and ESRI have an ArcGIS viewer. No turn by turn directions, but a variety of imagery and rendered vector mapping.

Re: Gaming is a very niche market.

Ok, I'm tempted to feed the troll....

A rather insulting post there?! Gaming is bigger than movies according to the telegraph (in 2009): http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/video-games/6852383/Video-games-bigger-than-film.html

PC Gaming is one part of that (and I'd listen to a _sensible_ argument about how big a part it is), with a lot of recent expansion thanks to mobile, facebook (games) and family friendly consoles such as the wii.

Re: On line maps

The OS have an online JavaScript based API called OpenSpace: (http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/web-services/os-openspace/index.html)

It is trivial to use this in a webpage with default map controls - works across browsers, tablets, smart phones. Let's you see all the classic cartography, loved by many users of the traditional paper maps.

Good news

This is a major step in the right direction, rationalising data sets and reducing complexity across the public and private sector. This will save money for years to come and in 10 years we will look back on the current setup in the same way we think now about pounds and pence pre-decimalisation (is that the correct term for it?!).

title here

I don't know what the problem is here, I have always needed to provide bank statements, proof of salary etc for mortgages. If you don't have those, then can't the self assessment return or tax records prove your income? On the other hand, if you are incorporated, then can't the company records support you? Testing for affordability seems like a good idea anyway and not something to be sneering at (r.e. news articles today regarding beer budgets).
