I have a diesel Volkswagen Passat 1.9TDI - it easily averages over 60MPG and can be coaxed to 70 mpg on a motorway. It is much faster than a Prius and doesn't have the eco-warrior, potato-shoes wearing overtones.

Why don't they make a diesel hybrid?
