I get a maximum of 35% stated speed on wireless G ( 2 meter distance ). Smallnetbuilder tells me that the fastest N router gives 73 Mbps - so that 24% stated speed (300Mbps). A little extrapolation tells me that gigabit wireless will give 13% of stated speed.
So a 1 Gbps connection will give 130 Mbps. A doubling in performance every generation seems achievable. However marketing departments now demand an order of magnitude and won't let the laws of physics get in the way of their claims! Snake oil for 21st generation.
What mediaserver do you use? I use PS3mediaserver, a decent PC and gigabit. I have problems with HD mkv especially when seeking or using the preview (square button). Sometimes they refuse to play even when the codec is supported. I have no problems using mkv2vob but it would be nice not to jump through the extra hoop of converting.
So refusing to support mkv will stop piracy? Popcorn Hour anyone?

Agreed
"SSDs are not used as storage drives"
It does seem that SSDs are competing against HDDs for storage capacity.
But I want to run my OS from a SSD and store my data on my home server. I don't want 256GB. I don't even want to pay for 64GB (the smallest new Crucial). I would love a couple of fast (SLC) 8GB drives to run my OS in RAID0 but can't seem to find any.
