COVID-19 cases surge as do sales of fake vaccination cards – around $100 for something you could get free

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: People who've been vaccinated are getting sick.

Tell us about Fort Detrick rather than just downvoting, OK?

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: A long way still to go

"those who are going to ignore the precautions " You mean the Covidiots and anti-vaxxers? Dream on.

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: People who've been vaccinated are getting sick.

"the very pretty young lady doctor" Norty boy!

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: People who've been vaccinated are getting sick.

"was a result of a gain of function experiment that unfortunately escaped" from Fort Detrick.

gandalfcn Silver badge

:"Funnily enough, a lot on the left/liberal side seem to be dedicated followers of Malthus. " No, that is more of a fascist/right wing problem

"Or read Professor Paul R. Ehrlich's "The Population Bomb", and believed it." Again, beloved of the right.

Just as Agenda 21 is described as a Marxist, Masonic, Zionist, globalist elite illuminati to control everyone.

"But a more pertinent issue is children don't seem to get infected. " Who told you that lie? Not only do they get infected but they pass it on.

gandalfcn Silver badge

"What an excellent idea. Might I suggest a yellow star, or perhaps a red or black triangle design? Or might that confuse people?" Actually that is what the MAGA Covidiots say vaxx certificates are. You really need to brush up on Trump policy.

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: Forgery

"You want to imprison all the people who use false covid ID". Possibly, there aren;' all that many you know. Just the idiots.. But if a few were imprisoned I think you'd suddenly find very few fakes.

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: Forgery

"I was making a ludicrous point deliberately. As a comparison." No, you made it as a serious comparison in a failed attempt to downplay the seriousness of Covid.

"xBut leaning down to change a CD with your eyes off the road is exactly the same risk as drink driving " Erm, nit in the slightest, as you must know.

"Drunk driving also doesn't usually get you a custodial sentence by the way." I know, but it was a reasonably close analogy that proved yours were pathetic. You need a sense of proportion. Something lacking amongst Covidiots.

Drunk driving is far less a problem nowadays in most countries. The sentence one gets depends upon the seriousness of the incident, and lying about Covid is a very serious one. You could arrive at an airport not wearing a mask or distancing, infecting many people, board a aluminium tube, potentially infecting more. And all those you infect could infect others But Covidiots only care about themselves, don't they.

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: Forgery

There seem to be rather a lot of upset, paranoid Trump supporters here. Amd just like him they don't have a clue abut their own Constitution, other than what the ignorant, fascist, racist, misogynistic Tucker "the Liar" Carlson tells them.

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: Forgery

Maybe you should read your Constitution.

"|In the USA, "showing your papers" like it's to a KGB or other "secret police" operative is, in my opinion, UN-AMERICAN." I think you'll find you are one guilty of that.

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: Forgery

Good job the current Cabinet don't need to apply then.

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: Forgery

You really are grasping at straws. your comparisons are ludicrous, patetic. A sensible one would be drunk driving. There is a reason for the term Covidiot.

US govt scores a point against Assange in run-up to extradition appeal showdown

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: Mr J. Assange, apparantly.

My responses containing facts keep being removed.i.e .blatant censorship. One has to wonder why when in the context of Assange.

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: Mr J. Assange, apparantly.

"He ran from charges in a country that was highly unlikely to extradite him anywhere,: Wrong, Sweden also refused to confirm he wouldn't be extradited.

He ran from charges that were trumped up, were revoked, re-instaed, rev9ked again and so on. Sweden was jumping to orders from the USA.

Talking of trunped, docs shortly after Trump became POTUS proved the US intended to try him for treason, terrorism etc. Trump called WikiLeaks "disgraceful" and suggested there be a "death penalty" for their actions.

"The Justice Department under President Joe Biden plans to continue the case against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange that was launched under President Donald Trump.

"We continue to seek his extradition," Justice Department spokesperson Marc Raimondi told Reuters, days before February 12, the deadline for the United States government to submit its "grounds for appeal.""

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: Mr J. Assange, apparantly.

"from a country that does not expedite for political offences:" I suggest you check your facts.

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: Mr J. Assange, apparantly.

"THE TRUMP JUSTICE DEPARTMENT inadvertently revealed in a court filing that it has charged Julian Assange in a sealed indictment. The disclosure occurred through a remarkably amateurish cutting-and-pasting error in which prosecutors unintentionally used secret language from Assange’s sealed charges in a document filed in an unrelated case. Although the document does not specify which charges have been filed against Assange, the Wall Street Journal reported that “they may involve the Espionage Act, which criminalizes the disclosure of national defense-related information.”"

Re: Mr J. Assange, apparantly.

"17 December 2001. Submitting to pressure from the United States, the Social

Democratic government of Göran Persson abruptly revokes the political refugee

status of two Egyptians accused by the U.S. of terrorism."

If he had gone to Sweden he would have then gone straight to the USA and faced a death sentence. I don't like the man but he faced life in a prison in the USA.

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: Mr J. Assange, apparantly.

Sorry, but Sweden refused to guarantee he would not be extradited, and that was the problem. If he is extradited to the USA he will just be convicted, imprisoned and the keys thrown away. The USA is a joke legally, it is seriously corrupt, so it would be a better idea if it was an international court, but the arrogant Septics refuse to accept international courts.

Taiwan president pokes the bear by saying the nation needs to lessen its supply chain dependency on China

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: Bear versus Dragon

Quite. But traditionally dragons are peaceful. I suspect it was meant as a Panda joke.

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: There are things you do and things you say

Relying on an expansionist country whose policies can change overnight, like the USA, is a really bad idea. On the other and the PRC's policies tend not to change very much.

Re: I blame Nixon.

Indeed, but Little Englander, Gammon Brexiteers don't like facts.

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: I blame Nixon.

I think I'd trust an examination of the history of China to a real historian, thanks all the same.

Ever heard of the state of Qin, aka China. Funny that the British Empire considered it extant rather a long time before the "early 20th century".

Presumably England to is only a few hundred years old because it was "a collection of warlord states of which competed for dominance."

Why on earth should Europe fragment and return to idiotic nationalism and conflict? Seems some people know nothing whatsoever about history. Conclusion: As others have said, united we stand, divided we fall.

Re: "Can't Get You Out Of My head"

Most el Reg readers don't have a clue about the Far East other than what they are told by FoxNews or the Mail/Telegraph.

What i find saddening is that they all bang on about the poor Chinese being oppressed by the evil CCP yet when said Chinese people arrive in the USA (& UK) they are treated as terrorists, parasites, spies etc. Just as Afghan refugees have been.

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: Everyone needs to lessen their supply chain with China, even China

Erm, no, that is from an over-reliance on international trade. Covid has caused problems but that is because strict controls were quickly put in place.

A stevedores strike in Rotterdam would have a disastrous effect on the EU (and the UK) than a problem in Ningbo.

Many things in Taiwan are Nihon based but neither the Han nor the Taiwanese are too keen on being returned to Japanese control.

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: The Pooh

Why a mistake? Just because you hate the PRC?

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: In what sense?

Quite, but all the bleeding heart know-nothings are blissfully unaware of that, and when they are informed they rub away because it doesn't suit their bigoted agendas.

Cue fact denying downvoters.

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: Too much of the world ...

Thanks for agreeing you don't know what capricious means. and neither do the dwnvoters.

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: Too much of the world ...

Totally impossible unless countries become totally communist, and that never works.

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: A courageous decision, minister

I lived in HK for many years and presumably the only reason you visited HK was a quick visit to get your RoC visa renewed.

The authorities may have seemed benign to you but most dissent and protest was rather violently put down.

"With hindsight, it would have been rather better if Britain had established democracy and self-rule in HK a bit earlier," what's with the "a bit earlier"? There was no real democracy, just as there isn't now.

Many of the laws currently being used are the laws enacted and enforced when HK was a colony.

What is you position oh the brutal oppression of the indigenous peoples of Taiwan?

It is currently very trendy to bask the PRC, probably because the West has screwed up things so badly and needs to deflect attention away.

gandalfcn Silver badge

And invest more money in the PRC. OK.

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: Too much of the world ...

That's capitalism for you.

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: Too much of the world ...

"an increasingly capricious government". Do you know what capricious means? Seems not given the capricious nature of government in the USA. Whether one agrees with the PRC or not, one thing it isn't is capricious.

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: A courageous decision, minister

"Given the way the Chinese government are treating Hong Kong." You mean far better than the UK ever did?

"Talking about decoupling supply chains is a bit more provocative though". Indeed, business people won't like that given the amount they have invested on the mainland

Just like the GOP jokers, no, that is an insult to the CCP.

Re: China needs better "public opinion propaganda"

"Propaganda means influencing people through psychological manipulation." That is just one interpretation.

"Psychological manipulation is a type of social influence that aims to change the behavior or perception of others through indirect, deceptive, or underhanded tactics"

"Propaganda, dissemination of information—facts, arguments, rumours, half-truths, or lies—to influence public opinion."

"Propaganda is communication that is primarily used to influence an audience and further an agenda, which may not be objective and may be selectively presenting facts to encourage a particular synthesis or perception, or using loaded language to produce an emotional rather than a rational response to the information that is being presented.[1] Propaganda is often associated with material which is prepared by governments, but activist groups, companies, religious organizations, the media, and individuals also produce propaganda."

Take the pencils out of your nostrils.

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: China needs better "public opinion propaganda"

At present the country with the biggest propaganda and lying machine is the USA. Mainly controlled by right wing Christians who teach evolution os a lie.

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: China needs better "public opinion propaganda"

As BoJo stated the Telegraph is “my real boss” .

gandalfcn Silver badge

bless. Your rhetoric is so 1950s.

Re: A seamless transition from Trump to Biden.

Nice piss take, but the soviets realised it was a total waste of time and money, as we did decades earlier. What I'm surprised about is the absence of the usual strident hissy fits about the PRC. But maybe FoxNews and the Mail haven't been providing all the information. How unusual.

Re: Absolute cunt's trick

If your salary is based on certain metrics then you are incorrect, and most salaries are based on specific assumptions whether you like it or not. One of those assumptions is the costs associated with having to travel to and from work and the higher costs of items you buy or use such as food and drink.

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: London weighting

Correct as to both "London weighting" and the use of similar metrics in the private sector. Unfortunately rather a lot of people refuse to accepts the facts and reality because they prove their bigoted opinions totally incorrect.

Location weighting is standard everywhere in the world. Shifting production to where labour is cheap is a form of the phenomenon. As are Flags of Convenience and tax havens.

But then Septics do seem to have problems dealing with reality and acts.

Chinese espionage group targets Israel while suggesting the source could be Iran

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: This is normal

Seems it seriously upset some.

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: This is normal

Don't you just love it when people downvote facts. They probably believe Trump as well.

gandalfcn Silver badge

Re: "Chinese espionage group targets Israel while suggesting the source could be Iran"

Indeed, but as the article is about Israel, which is a rather major player, i thought a reality check was needed. Aso, the PRC has nowhere near the ability or network the USA has. Even Russia lags a long way behind. And then the UK, we have always been up near the front.
