Tech upstarts to pocket up to $5m from crowd-fund suckers, er backers

GrandpaChris

The best of America Startups

Raising limits just makes sense. Risk can be less with more participants.

My worst backing was a watch just before Apples introduced its watch. Got watch from ital be it never worked. My best backing was an Ebike for US$499 from #GOSONDORS which was paid for in zJanuary 2916 and arrived in Canada June 2016. Beautiful design and all aluminum.

Great name.Would you like a secure travel passport? This device is about Canadian Blackberry security. We believe "loose lips sink ships" is valid just as much today as it was yesterday.

Re: Steve Jobs

"it's the goverments of most developed countries. In that case it is instructive to observe how the solution to excess public borrowing and spending in the Eurozone, UK, Japan, and US is to borrow more and keep spending, which then feeds the consumer credit bubble because these governments need to keep interest rates low to avoid bankrupting themselves, thus they create cheap credit for banks, inflating asset prices, and encouraging risky lending."

Very true but disinterested peoples vote nutty politicians with short term goals to make laws for their short term supporters. Government sets policy direction.

Greater than all the above is the fact that world middle classes are becoming equal in status and income. It's a small world after all. Steve helped make this new social world small. Good on him!

Re: Who would want a 13" tablet?

Whatever you think about general computing, in the TV world (where computing is going) large screens are needed. We are so so into visual values that we need a wide variety of screen sizes to satisfy our visual needs.

For example the ice box surface is crying out for large screen real estate. My TV room wall could use a high 4K definition screen. Perhaps the front door or any door will provide a screen surface.

A seniors delight

Yes sir I'll buy because as a seventy year old geek I find reading on my iPad Touch getting harder considering my eye "Floaters" getting in the way of my reading which means I will add an iPad mini with LTE to the list of Apple Inc products purchased over the last quarter century. (I have every operating system since the Apple II plus days - why - I really don't know. Great memories I guess.)

Support

Apple products have a proven record of - No Need For Support - when install base is educated. A PC person needs a huge IT department whereas an Apple IT dept is a 10th the size. Savings in support more than makes up for the additional cost of well designed and user friendly interface Apple products. KISS. Keep It Simple Siri!

Australians are well educated people and will save big dollars in future support costs..

Steve Jobs' last words: 'OH WOW. OH WOW. OH WOW.'

GrandpaChris
Thumb Up

Wow Oh wow, etc

Ritchie and Jobs were inventors. Software is the new language but presentation of the box it come in makes the sale. Steve made decisions based on his gut feeling for what the average consumer would buy. Operating systems, car engines, new ideas need people who sell a vision for daily use by the raw unwashed public (mankind) of the box.

As for his last day with his family; it's going too far you or I to speculate what the meaning by his Wow Oh! Each of us will take a last breath, last heart beat, last brain wave before turning white in death. We can believe in nothing or believe in a loving Jesus or a trip into hell on our last day and those before our last.

Jobs and Ritchie can be remember for good ideas or not.

What good ideas has your day produced for mankind?

Business is Business

Different folks will get different devices from many different businesses. The phone/interenet device can be sliced and diced in many flavours or flavors suitable to markets that meet selected needs.

In a few years I will have many devices, sizes, uses giving me multiple services. But at some point the real cost of 'throw-away-devices' will bite us all.http://www.theregister.co.uk/Design/graphics/icons/comment/grenade_32.png

10 years from now it will still be the iStore. Would you go to Wallymart or a small local store for common consumer items?

Apple consumers

have been well served by many high quality devices. I own and can boot a 1979 orignal Apple Plus. It runs Appleworks as well today as in 1980s. Steve asks for quality and I have enjoyed some 20 different products over the years. I'm seventy now and still enjoy Steves products by typing this on my iPod Touch. My only regret is the 30,000 dollars spent on computers which wound have made me well off if in Apple stock. Steve is unique in a good way and his products have stood the test of time.

iTouch Two/iPad pocketbook for Boomers

I for one would like to see a larger pocket book size screen so I can read The Reg without squinting or right-left movement. Eyes can almost read 8 point text. I like being old. It has set me free.
