Tech upstarts to pocket up to $5m from crowd-fund suckers, er backers

The best of America Startups

Raising limits just makes sense. Risk can be less with more participants.

My worst backing was a watch just before Apples introduced its watch. Got watch from ital be it never worked. My best backing was an Ebike for US$499 from #GOSONDORS which was paid for in zJanuary 2916 and arrived in Canada June 2016. Beautiful design and all aluminum.

Apple's new 'iPad Air 2' sliced open, revealing (possible) A8X core

The questions is;"Can Apple write bug free software anymore?" World Steve stand for this.Think not.

Vodafone to stock BlackBerry Passport – on sale tomorrow

Great name.Would you like a secure travel passport? This device is about Canadian Blackberry security. We believe "loose lips sink ships" is valid just as much today as it was yesterday.

iPhone 6 FEELS your heat, wetness... and it'll TELL Apple – report

Re: Over a hundred billion in the bank

Apple is just another World Company that pays zero US tax which allows individuals to pick up the balance for costs of health, education water, and other minor necessities of life.

Selling phones? Nonsense, BlackBerry is all about THE CLOUD

Thumb Up

Getting to a place where communication is just another service I trust brings Blackberry back to its pager days. Now will all devices secure except windows and simple IT usage even the bosses assistant can be a Blackberry IT admin. Cool Blackberry. Nice juice.

Billionaire dumps Apple stock because Steve Jobs was 'really awful' guy

Re: Steve Jobs

"it's the goverments of most developed countries. In that case it is instructive to observe how the solution to excess public borrowing and spending in the Eurozone, UK, Japan, and US is to borrow more and keep spending, which then feeds the consumer credit bubble because these governments need to keep interest rates low to avoid bankrupting themselves, thus they create cheap credit for banks, inflating asset prices, and encouraging risky lending."

Very true but disinterested peoples vote nutty politicians with short term goals to make laws for their short term supporters. Government sets policy direction.

Greater than all the above is the fact that world middle classes are becoming equal in status and income. It's a small world after all. Steve helped make this new social world small. Good on him!

Bee well brother/sister.

Apple's iTunes Radio to launch next month with abundant ads

Thumb Down

If this is the new Apple Inc way then loose me if its not Glenn Miller.

Google accounts for quarter of US internet traffic – report

And it's 2084?

We can hope for private ethics and good government regulations in a world wide principled political democracy sometime after 2084.

Steve Jobs' death clears way for '13-inch' JUMBO iPAD HYPEGASM

Re: Who would want a 13" tablet?

Whatever you think about general computing, in the TV world (where computing is going) large screens are needed. We are so so into visual values that we need a wide variety of screen sizes to satisfy our visual needs.

For example the ice box surface is crying out for large screen real estate. My TV room wall could use a high 4K definition screen. Perhaps the front door or any door will provide a screen surface.

17" iPad on my ice box

Lets say bigger is better. iPads of all sizes. "Sorry Steve" (I'm Canadain as you can tell.)

Bitcoin gets a $100 haircut on rollercoaster trading run

Re: Unsurprise!

Lately I am watching Tv series like storage wars and pawn stars and one of the reasons is the amazement I get seeing how much people are willing to pay for rubbish.

Really? You think entertainment on American shows is truth real. Get a life!

Re: 'tarded

"The Register is a tabloid" humour wins me over every time. And this new money is so easy to phone in phone out. Especially when the local loan shark is having coffee.

Re: Fear not

The US dollar has been collapsing for years! The more its spread around and used as a BigMac exchange indicator the less likely it will recover.

Thunderbolt interface strikes YOUR PC: What's the damage?

Not so

This worked for me!

Thumb Up

Fast thunderbolt with SSD in Seagate adaptor

Seagate adaptor powered by laptop. . . .Buy at Apple store. . .

Added 120 gig OCZ SSD gave my Macbook Pro up wards of 360 Mb/s throughput!

English gents video got me started and it all works well but keep it a secret, OK!

With the correct setup thunderbolt rocks!

iPad Mini's quite a handful

"iPad Mini is just right" - said daddy bear

Time to retire my iPod Touch - 3 gen. - my eyes are having floater problems. I think it (iTouch) is worth CDN $19. Will give it to Sally Ann Store. Facetime and LTE are my motivators - comments?http://www.theregister.co.uk/Design/graphics/icons/comment/angel_32.png

Apple's iPad Mini released, analysts predict slow burner

A seniors delight

Yes sir I'll buy because as a seventy year old geek I find reading on my iPad Touch getting harder considering my eye "Floaters" getting in the way of my reading which means I will add an iPad mini with LTE to the list of Apple Inc products purchased over the last quarter century. (I have every operating system since the Apple II plus days - why - I really don't know. Great memories I guess.)

Dinosaur flatulence may have warmed Earth

Arrogance & Methane & CO2

brings us to The Chart which nicely shows past equal to the present but does not not show human arrogance. Should the earth's ionosphere and atmosphere be changed by a 150 year history of warming our tents with oil based products!

What in nature have white men killed for the last 150 year using vast amounts of Arrogance & Methane & CO2?

EC tears duvet off Universal-EMI mega-music romp

Re: For the sake of music consumers everywhere I hope the merger is quashed.

Canadian view living next to the kind gentle elephant in the room. Let the merger proceed. Let Apple Inc. buy after the merger. The elephant may grunt as it swallows the merger but all will be well. Consumers win again -NOT!

South Australian Department formalises Apple procurement

Apple products have a proven record of - No Need For Support - when install base is educated. A PC person needs a huge IT department whereas an Apple IT dept is a 10th the size. Savings in support more than makes up for the additional cost of well designed and user friendly interface Apple products. KISS. Keep It Simple Siri!

Australians are well educated people and will save big dollars in future support costs..

Voice from above:

"We shall bring ALL our people to our space ship in sunny CA, now!"

Steve Jobs' last words: 'OH WOW. OH WOW. OH WOW.'

Thumb Up

Wow Oh wow, etc

Ritchie and Jobs were inventors. Software is the new language but presentation of the box it come in makes the sale. Steve made decisions based on his gut feeling for what the average consumer would buy. Operating systems, car engines, new ideas need people who sell a vision for daily use by the raw unwashed public (mankind) of the box.

As for his last day with his family; it's going too far you or I to speculate what the meaning by his Wow Oh! Each of us will take a last breath, last heart beat, last brain wave before turning white in death. We can believe in nothing or believe in a loving Jesus or a trip into hell on our last day and those before our last.

Jobs and Ritchie can be remember for good ideas or not.

What good ideas has your day produced for mankind?

Business is Business

Different folks will get different devices from many different businesses. The phone/interenet device can be sliced and diced in many flavours or flavors suitable to markets that meet selected needs.

In a few years I will have many devices, sizes, uses giving me multiple services. But at some point the real cost of 'throw-away-devices' will bite us all.http://www.theregister.co.uk/Design/graphics/icons/comment/grenade_32.png

Climate change apocalypse NOW

Pure human arrogance to

think that burning stuff stored underground over the last 150 years would NOT change CO2 levels. We are weak.

Apple ads to target your iTunes history

iOS4 embedded

Apple has embedded the iAd onto it's new OS-"4". Therfore once your group is identified you will be given the 'opportunity' via the OS to see your targeted advertising. (all upgrades will fine tune your OS via any information Apple may obtain on you for your group.)

Clamshell dinner – Jobs and iPad munch netbook sales

Google in shock reveal of AdSense revenue shares

Thumb Up

Let the ad games begin.

Apple has iAd within the Operating System for all iPads devices. Ten years from now Apple will have revenue coming out it's . . . Just like Google.

Google gets Episodic with web video

Jobs Halo

YouTube, but it's also worth noting that Episodic mentions IPTV devices.

could be any new device catagory such as the new iTablets from various venders. The iPad is not the end of new iTablet devices.

Best Buy buys in modest iPad supply

Love, em - eh.

New device catagory! We'll need to wait to see how users play the device. The iPad is just the first of the catagory iTablets. I use the iTouch for 75% of my online time. The laptop isn't used that much anymore because why not just use the handholds ease of use for emails, podcast and audiocast.

iT's The iStore Silly

http://www.theregister.co.uk/Design/graphics/icons/comment/headmaster_32.png ("I think Apple have lost a lot of market by having all these add-ons, most poeple want an all-in-one device without having to buy loads of add-ons to get the functionality they want.") WRONG. 5% or 92 % will use the iStore to make a personal use for any device.

10 years from now it will still be the iStore. Would you go to Wallymart or a small local store for common consumer items?

Steve Jobs gets top dog Noughties honours

Apple consumers

have been well served by many high quality devices. I own and can boot a 1979 orignal Apple Plus. It runs Appleworks as well today as in 1980s. Steve asks for quality and I have enjoyed some 20 different products over the years. I'm seventy now and still enjoy Steves products by typing this on my iPod Touch. My only regret is the 30,000 dollars spent on computers which wound have made me well off if in Apple stock. Steve is unique in a good way and his products have stood the test of time.

Christmas stockings attract a Touch or two

Thumb Up

Apple lied about the "iPod Touch"

when they introduced it. The new device was and is a mini Mac OS. The Touch device is a new category of Internet Catching Devices/ computer functions. But hey the iPod plus iTunes Store on every PC was just the backdoor beginning to the Steve vs Steve war. Zune vs Touch Two. Let the fighting begin!

Apple iPad to launch January 26 (maybe)

iTouch Two/iPad pocketbook for Boomers

I for one would like to see a larger pocket book size screen so I can read The Reg without squinting or right-left movement. Eyes can almost read 8 point text. I like being old. It has set me free. I  like the person I have become. I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could  have been, or worrying about what will be. And I shall eat dessert  every single day (if I feel like it). Almost!
