MZ601 xoom (UK 3G) turned out NOT to be a GED, much to the frustration of those who bought one. US spec are GED but all the various rest-of-word models = fail. Not something they made public until it had been on sale for 2-3 months, which is why I'm now off Moto for life.
Quite why Moto fragmented the radio specs to the point where a universal rollout was impossible? Who knows. 601 doesn't currently appear on the ICS roadmap either, which is pretty poor.
Hopefully it ships with a functioning charger. Now on my third for the original Xoom, which in all other respects is a great pice of kit. I would agree that this size appears to about optimum for 90% of my tablet usage; 10" is just a little too large for comfortable use while commuting.
and I can guarantee not one of the people in that queue had the faintest idea what they were buying. I predict 100 BNIB Sony Fondleslabs on ebay by nightfall.
Sent from my Xoom and yes, I paid full price. Nice BT keyboard an mouse as a "sorry for the pricepoint" though
My NexusOne is currently awaiting collection after UPS failed/forgot to collect it yesterday. To be fair to HTC, they warned me it would take 20 working days to be assessed and were happy to agree that it was suffering from the well documented on/off switch fault without demanding that I do soft, hard and semi-flacid resets while spinning widdershins.
Where I may have gone wrong is in buying a Wildfire as my backup phone while the All Powerful NexusOne is away on its holidays. Still, at least it's not an SE X10. They really ARE woeful
:sigh: Perhaps I should have tugged on the Jobsian Weiner after all. No, no, no! What am I talking about! I shall man-up and suffer the indignity of a less than premium smartphone experience, safe in the knowledge that I, and millions like me, are all in-duh-viduals.
Pint? I suspect I'll be needing one.....
Sorry, don't usually rely on LULZ and OMGs but W and indeed TF are these people thinking?
Oh hang on, got it; they weren't thinking. Still, it's the supremely ironic to have toy security staff confiscating toy guns.
Well as it's Friday, I'm off to buy myself some hi-viz and a PMR so I too can inflict randomness on total strangers.
Voda offer femtocell. Relucatantly, as they are the only network offering coverage in my locality (and that's marginal) I make enquiries. "Yes sir, you only need 1Meg broadband and......"
Right. I wish. About a 3rd of that on a good day.
Would love them to sort the local cell but with three cows and a tractor passing through on a good day, it's not going to happen. Sadly neither is a broadband upgrade any time soon.
I see the same reluctance to challenge issues in another UK bank IT Project, only that reluctance is very much a domestic issue. Anyone who dares suggest that the current approach or design is in any way lacking is given one chance to kow-tow and shown the door if they dare do it again.
We, the remaining wet robots, just hunker down and take the pain and humiliation in exchange for our £££. Utterly soul destroying.
I’d hoped people on this forum might recognise a bit of “Friday” when they saw it. In future I’d appreciate being referred to as “fat tosser” rather than “big man”. It’s much more accurate.
On a serious note, the reduction in resources as a trigger for change strikes me as being how this will play out. The human race has a poor track record for changing without some degree of compulsion and a worse one for ignoring difficult decisions. I’d venture that for every great moment in history inspired by altruism and philanthropy, there will be a dozen driven by force.
All the alternatives to oil presently being developed rely on consumption of finite resources; we’re simply swapping one shortage for another. It’s going to take greater minds than yours or mine to crack this one. In the meantime, lower consumptions buys us time but doesn’t solve the problem.
Yes I do have a large 4x4 but then I split my time between project management contract work and forestry work with a sideline in agricultural fencing. I also have a smallholding where we produce much of our own meat, fruit, eggs and veg, bartering with others in the village for things we don’t produce ourselves. I tow a 3500kg trailer for moving animals, timber, feed etc.
Trouble is, when I drive to a town I get labelled by the car I’m in by people who might have smaller cars. I’d prepare to bet the majority of their houses are a mass of processed foods and the latest must-have gadgets and they wouldn’t know a composting system if it came and kicked them in the backside
due a horde of "that's all very well but we have finite resources" posts any moment now.
Yes, we have finite resources, but what good is a great big puddle of oil if you don't do something with it? The greatest driver for change will be clear, empirical evidence of a resource running out, not guesstimates and harbingers of doom.
I also forecast a brief squall of "won't somebody think of the children". Rest assured I do, as I aim the bonnet of my car at them.
So I'll keep driving my 240bhp 4x4 ta. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose
Someone alleges a crime so plod casts about for cameras for evidence. For some reason they ignore every mobile phone (most of which can take pics and video) and opt for the camera that I suspect might just have been pointing at them. Suspicious? Moi?
Strange that when people offer their cctv footage to police as evidence of their car or house being vandalised, the police rarely seem to interested in viewing it or taking it seriously. And by strange I obviously mean "bloody predictable".
Badgers? Well it's black 'n' white sarge, yer actual prima facie evidence 'n' stuff.
