why so negative?
at least HP seem to have the intent of making good on their acquisition of palm. maybe oracle can learn a thing or 2 from them.

what a dignified and eloquent post......Not!!!
you sir, are living proof that myopia exists on both sides of the atlantic. i.e. assuming you're british based on your spelling of "programme". otherwise i had you as tobacco chewing, sheep and or sister chasing, inbred.
oh and don't let the door hit you on the way out.
i'm forced to use win7 because that's what my IT dept installed on my t400. the first thing i did was switch to classic theme.
on my dual boot home laptop which is a 2 year old acer, winXP feels a lot faster than my t400.
the specs are:
t400 / 4GB ram / 7200rpm hdd / win7
acer 4720z / 2GB ram / 5400rpm hdd / winXP / Fedora Core 12
needless to add, Fedora on my laptop whoops anything MS can throw at it except maybe games.
"Secondly, I think vmware at least does provide hardware acceleration, including for 3D -- but maybe only for Linux."
AFAIK, virtualbox also supports 3d but it's experimental, and since i don't play games, i don't really know how good it is.
i run virtualbox on linux as the host, but i see no reason why this wouldn't work with windows as well.

"While its primary focus is netbooks, Chrome OS could eventually scale to a wide variety of devices," reads Google's form factor UI post. "Each would have vastly different input methods, available screen space, and processing power."

i'll settle for a regular linux distro like Fedora or Debian on my desktop/netbook/laptop
think about it, even those who exercise regularly but still spend a lot of time on their bums are potentially in for a nasty surprise.
my "expert" advice would be, to drink around 1-2 liters of water while at work, that way you at least need to take a piss break regularly.
the catholic church is too soft a target for anyone looking for cheap publicity.
and speaking as someone who actually loves animals, PETA is a fraud. but then again so are greenpeace and other organizations who hoodwink intellectually insecure people into supporting them just to appear to be smart and kewl.
my acer aspire 4720z running fedora core and xp on top of virtualbox is a gem. i'd call it the best value for money deal you can get.
1 year later, i see other greenhorns such as you, pay double for a big brand laptop with vista, and they still turn green at my old acer. and xp is needed for the odd occasion when a client insists on me connecting to their network from home using a windows machine or when i need to edit an office document that has lots of graphics and tables in it.
i take it, you are not aware of how to actually use / configure a computer.
