Except that here, people who got the iPhone7 with the Qualcomm chip didn't get the bonus performance for free. A better analogy with the iphone6s case would have been Apple adding a shunt resistor across the battery of the phones with the tsmc chip in order to drain the battery faster.
Microsoft's in-store Android looks desperate but can Google stop it?
windows 8.1 for mobile phones
Apart from the lack of developer love win 8.1 was quite a decent os. If only Microsoft persisted things could have been different. It was the little things like finger print support, proper email client, printer support that made me return to Android. They had a sweet os that ran like the blazes on lesser hardware, was secure, and had good battery life, not to mention those Lumia cameras were the best at the time. And they pissed it all away.

Re: i5 and ARM are similar in performance?
the i3 is not horrible at all.
i recently bought a laptop with an i3 processor. being budget conscious, the decision to spend more on features that actually make a difference to me won over. A lot of scripting which needs a decent resolution display (1080p) and a decent keyboard. A lot of browsing (firefox with ~40 tabs open), reading and watching a couple of videos on the weekend. i also connect to an additional monitor with a 1920x1600 display resolution.
i run 64-bit linux as my OS of choice, and virtual machines with win7/bsd/linux as guests, although i usually have only one guest os running at a given time. performance is fast and smooth. no lags, no freezes.

A perfect marriage: YOU and Ubuntu 16.04
Choice rules!
just installed 16.04 LTS on a new laptop and apart from some initial glitches with the UEFI, it works quite nicely. I was initially upset when i saw that enlightenment e16 would not install. I tried e20 but just didn't like all the eye candy. but as this is linux, there's always a choice, i chose fluxbox and it works just like e16 did, fast, clean and functional.
would i recommend ubuntu 16.04LTS to someone else? yes definitely. it's still IMO one of the easiest installs i've done, has a large set of tools and applications and is compatible with a large range of hardware.

smart dialling
Does it support smart dialing? what about changing the middle digit of a phone number without having to delete all digits between that and the last digit?
i'm seriously thinking about getting a 1320 since i want a big screen for reading and checking email, along with a moderate price. I've tested the dialer on a friends lumnia 920 and i found it lacking. my trusted e71 has smart dialing and thats almost 6 years old.

take a asprin and apply some vaseline, it'll get better after a while.
despite it's many failings, a young and yet ancient country dares to dream. here in bangalore the excitement about the launch was tangible. people rushed to the rooftops after lunch to try and catch a glimpse of the launch in nearby TN. i'd call that mission accomplished right there, anything else is a bonus.

Qualcomm exec on eight-core mobile chips: They're 'dumb'
Re: "Dumb" until Qualcomm are able to produce an 8 core chip
last time i checked qualcomms quad core beat the shit out of samsungs octa core. this despite everyone prediciting that the a15 would smoke the krait.
untill samsung/nvidia/mediatek come up with an architecture to challenge krait, Snapdragon will be the chip to beat.

a general discussion on krait v/s a15 v/s atom in terms of power performance. there are a number of tests with varying results, but generally the qualcomm chip comes out on top.
http://www.extremetech.com/computing/144778-atom-vs-cortex-a15-vs-krait-vs-tegra-3-which-mobile-cpu-is-the-most-power-efficient
this is a rehash of the Anandtech article which tells the same thing.
last but not least, the very article to which we're commenting on, talks about the phone not heating up even under heavy cpu load.
Re: No Exynos in the US
the qualcomm chip is actually better. a15 blowing the krait out of the water is just a myth. look at the comparison over at gsmarena.com where they have benchmarks between the 2 SGS4 models.
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s4_vs_htc_one-review-913p6.php
you get virtually identical performance at a fraction of the power consumption.

Pope resigns months after launching social networking effort
Re: Take them to the cleaners, Benny!
funny i don't recall Mother Thresa doing this when caring for the sick and dying in India, most of whom were non catholics. I myself have worked with the nuns at a home dedicated to looking after children with defects abandoned by their parents. i've also visited and helped out in old age homes many of the residents of which are non catholics.
from my experience of actually being there as oppesed to reading stuff on the internet, i can tell you, no gold changed hands.
Re: Take them to the cleaners, Benny!
the sort of organization that's lasted through centuries, wars and other pseudo intellects who believed they knew better perhaps?
or perhaps the sort of organization that's built schools, and hospitals in places where few would go and asking nothing in return. a damning statistic if ever on the Church's business acumen.
see son, for the pope to admit that he's no longer able to do justice to his job and retire takes a lot of brass. much more perhaps than it takes for a nitwit sitting in front of his keyboard taking cheap pot shots.
