No BBM app for PlayBook soon, admits RIM

RIM's intelligence is in single figures....

so, they seem to have no bounds to their ignorance... the Playbook is nothing more than a monitor for the BB it seems - why are people going to want a Playbook, which is wifi only or can be tethered to their Blackberry, and their view is you don't want a native email client in the Playbook as there's one in your other hand on the Blackberry.... therefore why bother with a Playbook??

at least Apple see their iPad as an independent device from the iPhone, so the owner can hold ONE device in their hand and have access to email and other apps on their iPad, without having to have it tethered to their phone in order to use email!

why iPlayer isn't available on the X360/PS3

with regards to the comments made about why iPlayer isn't available on other devices, that's to do with the terms laid out by Sony and Microsoft

The BBC would happily put iPlayer onto Xbox Live, as long as it's free for all users (not just Gold accounts) and as long as there is no Microsoft/Xbox branding on it - Micro$oft said no to the requirement that it must be free for every user so the BBC can't go with Micro$oft's terms because it prevents Silver accounts from accessing the iPlayer service because M$ wanted it only for the Premium Gold account users (this is a legal issue because iPlayer's funded via the TVL, so must to be free for every user)

As for the PS3, Sony won't allow it onto the PS3 without some kind of Sony branding, this in itself brings numerous legal headaches about advertising used in conjunction with BBC branding, so the BBC are stuck with just the Wii because Nintendo were happy to let them do what they asked for and let them get on with it

If anyone wants to point the finger of blame at why iPlayer isn't available on all consoles... blame Sony & Microsoft because they're the ones preventing the BBC from adding iPlayer to their consoles because they're asking for something the BBC cannot legally agree to

EC drops Microsoft browser probe

EC says you're all too thick to use a PC!

it seems that the EC wants to enforce the ability for Microsoft to offer up crap like Opera (there's a reason why it's free... no-one would pay for crap like that!)

however... it seems that this suggests that all PC users are completely incapable of using Microsoft IE to navigate around the porn and BitTorrent sites, to find such pearls as www.mozilla.org or Apple's site to download such jewels like Firefox or Safari....

surely anyone who can turn on a PC and find a picture of a naked woman on the net can find Google and install a different browser (such as Firefox) without needing a Choice Screen from M$ to help install it! or are the EC assuming we're all too thick to understand how to download software off the net????

also.... what happens to new build machines that don't have a net connection (surely not in this day and age!) but when someone buys a new PC, it's not immediately plugged into the 'net, so how will this Choice Screen cater for people who don't immediately want to use their new computer to find p0rn? Will there be an option to defer selecting which browser you wish to use until you've actually plugged the PC into a network cable to get online???

so.... what confuses me is this whole problem with the fact that A) Opera aren't "selling" a superior product, just different, and B) IT'S FREE!!!

surely anyone who buys a new copy of Windows but wants to use Opera would run Internet Explorer, go to their site and download Opera, and then delete any IE shortcuts (or possibly uninstall the whole browser) and yet we're apparently too thick to do this and need a window to appear to allow us to choose which browser we wish to use??

FFS!! I USE SAFARI ON MY PC BECAUSE IT'S BETTER THAN FRIGGING OPERA! If their product was better than any of the others, it might be an issue, but for the 4 users out there on a crap browser, sorry but navigate to Google and look up some real browsers!

encryption isn't a viable method

the "encryption" option is a good idea, however under many national laws (in the UK and US for example) then any encryption that is not crackable by national security agencies (GCHQ in the UK, or the NSA for the US) is illegal.

So... you can encrypt your data, and transfer it as you previously did, but if the authorities can't crack it, then you're under arrest for using an algorithm that cannot be broken, and if it can be broken, then what's the point as any "suspect" files can then be referred on to those agencies for unlocking, and you'll get nicked if there's anything in there that's deemed illegal (such as that Spice Girls CD you've mp3'd)
