I guess the time for a new gospel from the church of fruit is nigh, as all of a sudden these apple sponsored puff piece surveys start popping up everywhere. To save everyone the bother of reading these articles for the next month, here is a conclusion of all these "realistic" surveys: iphone users are all smarter, richer, more satisfied, have bigger "hands", drive faster cars and are generally much more magical than everyone else.

Can we now get back to some real statistical analysis of more credible data please?

not sure about australia and korea, but in germany it doesn't seem to have stopped the sale of glaxy kit one bit. Walking around several cities in Germany last week I spotted numerous displays and promotions for the galaxy tab, S2 and other samsung kit in shops and flyers. The problem is the ban only restricts samsung from selling and promoting their kit, it doesn't apply to telecos, tech stores and independent stores. Not much of a win for apple there then.

Don't get me wrong, but apple do have a solid case for samsung copying the appearance of the bottom row of 4 icons that is part of samsungs custom skin on their android phones. Samsung should be ordered to issue a mandatory update that replaces this with a unique design within say the next 4 weeks or face a fine. As for all of apple's the other complaints, what a load of dross! They should be thrown out and apple fined for wasting the court's time. My money is on either Apple or MS buying the PC arm of HP. Apple could use it to rake in a large chunk of the laptop market and MS can use it to establish a bulwark and counterbalance to Apple - as well as give them something to actually sell in all these stores they insist on opening.

I have no love lost for apple, but if it was the choice between the HP slab and the Apple slab I would choose the apple one purely because of the app availability. And then ditch that and use my Asus Transformer instead anyway.

As a matter of fact only Samsung are banned from importing and selling the Galaxy Tab 10.1. It is perfectly legal for retailers to simply source and import the tablets on their own from outside the EU and sell them / promote them to their heart's content. Apple would need to seek an injunction against each such importer / retailer directly to stop it.

As a result of this Samsung have received masses of free publicity, apple have been made to look like a bunch of bullies and when this nonsense gets overturned in a months time they will also face a massive bill from Samsung for loss of earnings.

For one you would need a graphics processor capable of pushing around 4 times as many pixels just to be able to keep up with the current performance, then there would be the processing power required to upscale all video to such a resolution. Add to that the need for significant amounts of graphics memory to buffer the signal and all the associated increase in power drain would make the ipad 3 quite a bit more expensive than it is at the moment. And that doesn't even factor in the cost of producing such a display in the first place.

I wouldn't switch back from win 7 to XP if they paid me to. The fact that 7 crashes about 0.0001% of the time compared to XP alone is enough of a reason for me to roll it out in any professional environment. Seriously, if I was looking to deal with a company in 3 years time and they told me they were still running XP and office 2000 I would have serious doubts about their professionalism. If they can't be bothered (or afford to) to keep their IT up to scratch what does that say about their commitment to continuing professional development and training? As for Gil, how does switching from a tough book to a macbook pro make any sense, but going from a tough book to a comparable toughened Windows laptop doesn't?

It is pretty simple to offer a cross platform license. Just provide the app for free and then implement a licensing system that requires you to enter a code which then registers with an online database. That is how the vast majority of computer software works and how apps like CoPilot satnav (I switched from android to windows mobile6.5 without any problems) then the app store is irrelevant.

Adobe is probably one of the best software vendors out there for that - they allow you to crossgrade between platforms at the cost of shipping only. They are also one of the few vendors that don't mind you selling your license to others.

"Smart phones and tablets are much easier to use than PCs" for a very limited range of things, usually consisting of consuming digital information and even then they are heavily restricted and cumbersome to use with anything but specific files and formats. I'd like to see you edit a photo, write a report or download a torrent on a portable device and then tell me that it is easier than using a PC/MAC.

Great so now you can buy a tablet with a pretty screen that has no sd card slot or usb support, can't view a significant number of websites that use flash and needs a dedicated computer to be able to use it, has highly limited support for differing file formats and still can't multitask properly and is slow. Wow, such a bargain! But at least it's thinner and has lots of accessories, just like Paris.

Do you actually have any idea what you are talking about? Being able to access the files has nothing to do with encryption. One generally encrypts the file not the process, so how you access said file is irrelevant.

let me make this very clear - a 2048 x 1536screen resolution tablet Will. Not. Happen. Ever. there is absolutely no reason for it and about 1000 against it. To name a few:

1. There is no media content that can make use of it, so processing power would have to be used to upscale everything.

2. Nobody, bar the extremely anally-retentive, complains that the resolution of a 24" monitor running 1920x1080 is too blocky or poor resolution, so how would a screen at less than a 1/4 the size be improved by increasing the resolution beyond 1080? 99/9% of people wouldn't be able to tell the difference, so why waste money on it?

3. Such a display would be way beyond the cutting edge of display technology and Apple have never even strayed into the cutting edge with their products, let alone beyond it. Apple take well designed mainstream tech and package & market it well. why should they suddenly change their whole method of working?

4. Running any kind of 3D games (portable gaming is an area where Apple are clearly moving in to) at that resolution would require a +400W power sucking fullsize desktop GPU

5. There are much better & cheaper technologies on the market that can improve the image quality of a screen than just ramping up the resolution, so why waste resources on that approach?

Now I could see a 10-12" screen maybe going as high as 1920x1080 in the future, but not for the next couple of gens.

ah yes the fantastic Ipad that is perfect for viewing the interweb, except for the thousands of websites that use flash. This incredible productive device that needs dozens of different apps you need to find so you can have mediocre workarounds for basic tasks you can do on any laptop or netbook as standard. Attach a file to an email on the ipad? Why would business need that? This is a consumer toy that is fantastic for media consumption but to do anything with it you end up using so many jerry-rigged processes to get it to work through dozens of different apps, it's like trying to build a swiss army knife by taping, tying and welding the contents of your cutlery draw together. Hardly very productive.

sorry, but that is utter nonsense. you could use the same argument for using the term OSX seeing as it is simply an abbreviation of Operating system 10. The word "windows" in relation to a title for an operating system is quite obviously trade-markable seeing as it isn't descriptive but nomenclative, just like linux and iOS. MS have never pursued anyone for referring to an open display are on the computer screen as a window.

The term "app store" however is descriptive and generic, just like toy store or supermarket. I seriously doubt toys-r-us can lay claim to the term toystore or wallmart to the term supermarket.
