Getting a bit bored of the current fad to make whiny comments about Stallman's one track mind. When the commentards here get themselves a reputation for something other than whining, I'll be glad to hear their opinions. Until then, consider what the landscape would look like with no FOSS.
As noted earlier, Wnidows 10 doesn't bring anything to the Pi. So what's it for ? Mareting tick box.
And what's the effect :
School has no linux experts. Maybe is already a 'Microsoft school', but has to run IoT or Pi or some other fashionable course to avoid looking outdated. Jumps for win 10 on Pi, thinking it's an easy option.
But Win 10 on Pi doesn't run legacy applications (the main reason to run Windows), doesn't have a desktop, can only run GUI applications written specially for it, and has poor support for I/O.
So the setup is completely useless except for use as a tickbox in the school's own marketing materials and is rapidly consigned to the cupboard. Back to the desktop where MS wanted them to be ..
I agree with you. Trolling is not simple abuse or harrassment. it's a specific type of practical joke.
But you're confusing trolling with trolls. Although the people who perform trolling (as described above) are referred to as trolls, so may many other, more abusive people. So it's perfectly reasonable to describe the sad losers who harass via social media as trolls, even though they're incapable of anything more inventive than name-calling.
Surely the suspected criminals here are no less guilty if the law is changed after the fact ? They broke the law AT THE TIME. That's what makes the act criminal. What it is now is irrelevant.
The government might, in the same way they did for Alan Turing, offer a post-trial and perhaps post-mortem pardon if they judge the criminal acts to be non-criminal in the light of later laws. But the point is, the civil servants deliberately flouted the law as they knew it, and, unlike Turing, in the course of their work. That's what makes them, and their managers, unfit for office. They can't be trusted.
Of course there are some bugs that take longer than 90 days to fix (and test and release). But if one lot of researchers have found it, so will another - and they might be exploiting it. Just because it takes a while to fix doesn't mean the blackhats will hold off too.
If 90 days is too short, then the vendor should offer a workaround instead, or at least a warning to disable some feature. Just keeping it quiet isn't a reasonable option.
And concentrate all your usage on a single account, which may have an unused data allocation. If you have a separate account for phone, tablet etc. you'll be paying for two, perhaps underused numbers.
That's for the UK model, anyway. If the US allows multiple SIMs on the same account, the reason is less obvious.
I'd say the most useful IoT thing this would improve is video recognition. The link to the camera is one of the few that isn't severely bandwidth limited, so the extra ram and processing is useful.
Media ? who cares - the android TV addons handle that.

It'll be some bizarrely crippled version, like office for tablets which won't work on a large screen.
But, that apart, it completely misses the point. The only reason people use Windows is for the applications. It's not the familiarity (all lost with 8.1 anyway), or the reliability (lol) or security (lololol). It's because LeisureSuitLarry95 or AdobePhotoshopfreewithconflakes2000 runs on it.
And this isn't true for an ARM processor, so it won't attract anyone. Even the Surface, with an executive-friendly look but the same restriction didn't attract anyone.

Useful comments, but it DOES have a real power plug : you can provide power through the "gpio" pin header.
I would never use a barrel jack on a permanent installation : I'd rather use the micro usb. But the right way to do it imho is to make a carrier board with a suitable power supply and any signal conditioning / pin protection etc. and drop the pi (or even the naked version) onto that. Then use proper connectors like the green plugin ones or whatever the rest of your system uses to connect it in.
Microusb is just for bench lashups. Barrel jacks are a bygone age, barely good enough even for chargers.
I wouldn't be so confident about them grabbing market share : a purchase isn't a user.
I bought the WIndows variant of a Asus tablet because it had USB3, unlike the Android variant. I figured I could live with it until I found an alternative OS. It's mostly served to confirm my dislike for Windows 8, and most certainly doesn't count as meaningful sale.

Or, to put it another way, they'd like to get away with their illegal surveillance without the fear of being outed.
That's all very well, but can you imagine the nightmare of persuading her that you didn't buy her Windows 8 as some sort of premeditated torture ?
At least if you put Linux on it you've got some hope of making it do what she wants with only trivial UI differences. It won't be actively fighting her (and you).
If economic growth was achieved by state investment into the ideas of earlier inventors, it doesn't necessarily mean that the earlier work was done under conditions that encouraged innovation. It means that invention without investment to put the ideas into action is fruitless.
State control may once have been a good way to get investment into long-term plans, making use of the science to grow technology. I'm not sure that's any longer the case, as politicians have become short-term thinkers just like the financial markets.
The answer is to understand the actual reasons for technological and / or economic growth, rather than using cargo-cult science to attempt to generate growth by re-creating previous conditions.
