Here we go again: New NHS patient database plan sets off alarm bells

Re: Here is what happens when you try to opt out......

Did you even read the article you linked to? It is about a patient's dislike of being targeting by QOF (Quality of Outcomes Framework) invitations...it has absolutley nothing to do with opting out of the Summary Care Record Service, or anything else.

"Bucks PCT have not found a way for this patient to access GP service. The patient has been without a GP since the end of July 2012"

Where is this mentioned in the article?

Title

Wait...what? Patient information can only be shared by email using start and end-point NHSNet addresses (@nhs.net). From the article, a letter was being emailed to the patient (off NHSNet presumably) but ended up at a different spelling of the name (off NHSNet).

Seems could have happened by paper just as easily as email, though

We are a two car family and I drive the car to work every day! Can't be fairer than that - don't assume everyone is dishonest!

Good Scheme

Although this approach is not new, the co-op offer an excellent scheme aimed at young drivers. My son (17) passed his test in November and got a quote the same day for £800 (covering me, the mrs and him - I'm the lead driver).

The premium is reviewed every 90 days based upon speed, cornering, braking, road types and (crucially) time of day - they really frown upon driving between 11:00pm and 6:00am.

Just received our first email stating that we are due a refund on the premium because the recorded driving parameters meet with their approval. This is without doubt the most affordable method of motoring for young drivers and I take satisfaction from the fact that my son knows he has a spy in the cab!

Stop

This is not a title

Your local PCT cannot deny you an upgrade to any clinical system under GPSoC. SystmOne will only talk to SystmOne. EMISWeb, InPS Vision, Adastra are all interoperable (and there are others, the names of which escape me now).

Try joing the EMIS National User Group mailing list; although a group focussed on EMIS it is a great source of knowledge, from the end user perspective, of primary care IT.

WTF?

@ Ben Tasker

Why the mention of Tamiflu? Tamiflu is an anti-viral drugs that used to treat the symptoms of flu; it is not a cure nor a vaccine. This is also an area where the population are being greatly mislead.

People are asking for Tamiflu when they don't need it, thinking it will stop them from getting flu (which it won't).

Also, nobody is being told that taking Tamiflu when you symptoms are at their worst can actually make you feel even worse. The only benefit of Tamiflu is that your recovery time will be reduced by 12 - 24 hours

Cost

I agree heartily with the context of the article, but there are 2 things that tick me off considerably.

I help run a childrens drama group and we will need to spend ~£640 to get our adult helpers registered under the new scheme, where will we get the money from?

Secondly, just like the CRBs, will they still be invalid as soon as they are issued (the cert could be issued the day before a court appearance!)

Grrrrrrrrrr
