Correction...

Government data rules mean that RESTRICTED documents do have to be shredded.

Holding NATO RESTRICTED on unaccredited information systems is still a breach of the Official Secrets Acts, even though anything marked as such is pretty openly shareable within the military community.....

So the Sun and NI (not being in the military community) are breaking the official secrets act, and hence both people tracked to having them, reading them and their organisation's information owner can still be arrested and done from at most treason.....

And the official government classification labels are actually:

Unclassified

Protect

Restricted

Confidential

Secret

Top Secret

Hello.... processes to avoid fraud cost more

The root problem is the way all public sector do procurement (OGC Blue Book rules) is flawed, really cannot be applied in the way it needs to to IT procurement, and is set up to line the pockets of consultants!

Recent MoD project with eventual win price of £12m cost over £20m to run the procurement process.... Who cares if the MoD are defrauded by a couple of mill in doing that procurement when the process to stop that cost 10 times the possible loss?!?!?!!?

The other Big con that this ignores is the Government Preferred supplier rates.... I phone up Dell and say i want 5 D630's for myself and get a price discounted from the RRP. I phone up and say, i want 5 D630's for this MoJ project and i get a price that is above RRP...... cos it is the government agreed "discounted" price list.

Also you need to research the capability of the Nimrod a bit more.... but i agree the MRA4 was a licence for BAE to print money, if UK Gov didnt still have a load of shares in them they should be taking them to the cleaners.

The IT is not the issue

I work in .gov systems for a middle sized supplier. And it is not the budgets spent ton eh IT that is the problem it is the bugets spent on Consultants because the Civil Servants have been forced in to a position that they will not make any decisions without "expert" advice.

Working on a £12m delivery contract at the moment, and the consultant bill in exceeding £30m!!!!!

but companies like Experian who re sell the PAF data in things like the QAS product make an enormous amount of money.

Royal mail charge about £1k a year to use the data directly from them.... QAS charge £30k a year!

Has anyone ever looked in to whether Royal Mail executives have any interest in the re selling companies.

It becuase the wages in India are rising and therefore it isnt cheaper to have call centres out there any more... i would put money on the fact they set them up in Ireland.... ;)
