Serious surfer? How to browse like a pro on Firefox

Al fazed
Devil

BOLLOX

I got fed up reading this over glamourisation of Firefox,

Honestly, the more recent versions are shit and really STINK.

Firefox has been my browser of choice for many years - but hey ho - all things must go, in the end.

It's called Entropy my friend

A "Steady State", IBM coined the phrase and it is perfectly applicable to Firefox's Software Development Life Cycle as any other software development life cycle.

You have gone too far already.

I do not give a flying shit about your "vertical" tabs.

The fucking tabs that had been working fine for several months have changed positions - AGAIN, maybe to accomodate the vertical Tabs ?

I noW struggle to use Firefox as a web designer !

WHY ?

'cos not even with "no caching" and pressing Refresh too may times, the browser does not reflect the changes that I have just made to my web site.

I had to, (1) close and re start Firefox several times (no good) (2) reboot the fucking PC (no good) (3) change to a different machine using Firefox (OK one time) (4) Use a different browser (OK getting somewhere) (5) Seriously think about giving up web coding as this happens too often for Firefox to be considered professional or reliable software.

Gone too far you have. On the stuff that isn't fucking relevant. Even my Bookmarks have changed place on the screen (left to right), and no longer show the folder icons............it's gone too far.

When I think of developers, I think of privileged people running amock, re-developing stuff because they can.

EGO !

Please get a life besides coding.............and stop this stupid willy waving and wanking in public, it's screwing with your image.

UK here we come ?

I read recently that Amazon has turned the footage from privately owned security cameras (door bell cameras etc) into "Prime time" TV (pun not intended) for our entertainment.

I therefore surmise that some media company (saying nowt) has paid off what I assume are grown up hippies, who now make up the local government of Cali.

I also surmise that Hollywood is going to lose more of it's shine as your local neighbourhood, budding "film directors" also rise to meet the new opportunities, in order to get more ad income via the Internet where there must be plenty would be consumers of their products - memed or not.

Looking forward to a new series of "Jack Arse".............

deluded - Titanic ?

These criminal gangs operate on a world wide basis. It said so in the article.

Just because you personally haven't read about, you refuse to believe it. It does not mean that it is not happeneing.

The real scale of illegal immigrants working in captivity in the UK has yet to be discovered, but the police are having to deal with these issues in connection with things like cannabis farms - throughout the UK.

In London's surrounding suburbs including Oxford, children as young as 10 years old are being dropped off with a quantity of heroin etc at a local dealers pad. This is where the stay until they have sold the "merch" in £10 bags............. Repeat this cycle........

Some drug dealers in UK cities (it has been discovered) move in to the "sheltered accomodation" which is being rented to one of their customers. It could be a single parent, the person often has a mental health disability, characteristics which keep them in housing, until the dealer gets caught and they are charged with "assisting" the dealer. The victim loses their "protected tenancy" and ultimately they end up back in the hands of the local authority and social services.

Recently it was reported that a bunch of folks living on a "travellers" site were discovered to have enslaved a chap who had downs syndrome. They had him working for many years, in exchange for a wrecked caravan for him to live in....

These are the tips of a fucking iceberg.....

Wake up !

Creatives up in arms over claim that AI is killing human art

Al fazed
Alien

Re: How many times have we heard "art is dead" since the '50s?

Turning to AI for creative inspiration seems very much like an individual artists aspirations to exploit any novel medium out of sheer desperation to be noticed............er, I suppose by those who do not know art from their elbows and need to be informed.

In AI's case dismally.

I've seen stuff that was made by chimps which had more aesthetic appeal.

AI is more of an anaesthetic.

If it's (the AI) engine is merely trawling a data base of artists styles, surely all that the AI can produce will be a melange of the oevre of previously notable producers of "art" which has been sucked into data set, Anyway ART is something which has still not been adeqautely defined. As "art", generally speaking seems to reflect the processes of evolution. So the data set in use is sadly - incomplete. So any "art" produced by it must be inherently flawed or inadequate in some way. It would certainy have to rank some what lower in terms of "beauty" than anything that was wrought of the passions wot stirred the original artist to make a mark.

It ain't sculpture and there's no audio.......

Does it (the AI product) warrant any financial value at all when it can be replicated interminably ?

Just asking.

I would have to wait from Friday afternoon until Wednesday to get the "emergency" treatment, travel 40 miles to Huddersfield at my expense to have said treatment. I am 69 years old and have a certificate which entitles to free dental treatment, but not according to the NHS 111 receptionist.

I needed anti biotics to prevent blood poisoning making my condition more complex to treat, but with the existing NHS app, that is not possible. Will making everything go through the mobile phone change this shitty emergency service ? I very much doubt it.

Re: Mistake

I suppose you think that sharing all of your persnal data with unknown company(s) or individual(s) is NOT silly - this is your world. IT certainly doesn't make any sense at all in mine.

For a start and I have said this before ......... the NHS system does not record anything to do with personal visits to a Choropractor, purchases of essential oils for the treatment of everything from athletes foot to sciatic pain, or the use of none prescribed medications such as, comfrey for the treatment of bruises and broken bones, never mind the effective use of cannabinoids on skin cancer and psilocybin for depression and anxiety.

So, there are those of us who still believe in the NHS and those of us who are apparently stuck with it, shit as it is and are already well used to looking elsewhere for our treatments and remedies.

So if I don't want chemotherapy, physiotherapy or prescription drugs, or use their equally crap app on my phone or computer etc, it isn't silly ...........

The crime against humanity that is the modern OS desktop, and how to kill it

Al fazed
Boffin

Old Skool

Whilst studying for my BSc in Information Technology I remember reading some stuff that had been written by IBM researchers with regard to software development and cycles of development which are intended to continually improve the application being developed, by removing bugs.

Apparently there becomes a point in any project's development cycle where entropy gets a say in the matter, because there's a point arises where following this method actually starts to introduce more issues than are being solved and after this there's a definite downward trend in overall product quality as a consequence.

Wish I could remember the term that IBM employed for this issue, without needing to look it up.

What an wonderful article.

Someone actually lambasting the shite we have to use these days. When I tell people I do IT, they move along to talk to someone else. That's how fucking bad this has got. Once upon a time people would queue up to ask me, "how do you do such and such on my ****** (name of device). Now they know before hand that after 30 years in the industry, my response will be, "how am I supposed to know that ?" or "what makes you think that I know how to fix it ?".

Every criticism I read in the article is absolutely true, it's a sodding pain every time, relearning what RIGHT CLICK doesn't do any more.

I used to think that computers would help to level the playing field for someone with a disability, now their disability is made worse by their choice of computer hardware amd accompanying software.

One good thing has come out of all this "messing about" though, it's called MX Linux. It's free, it leaves the other OSes that I have tried - in the ditch.

The only point of concern being that the STOP/START button is now at the top left corner of my screen - at the far end of a vertical task bar.

Vertical task bar ? OK, no real issue.

But why move the START/STOP button ? Because they can........

If that wasn't a hard right manouvre then it appears that we no longer know what "hard right" actually means.

You had to work without PPE, you were not entitled to 80% of your previous wages, you were not entitled to Universal Credit, or Housing Benefit.

The they got called BAME, but it wasn't racist. Just overworked immigrants doing jobs white English people won't do.

Telling us that kids don't et COVID, so they can go to school with the kids of BAME folks. NOT telling us that your dog can carry COVID and spread it.

As long as you have enough money, in Britain the laws do not apply to you. You can fly out of Stanstead on a private jey bound for the F1 in Brazil and can bring back Brazillian variety of da bug.

Re: GIGO

It's your personal opinion.

I am sadden that you feel so strongly about it from your own experience that you are quite happy to prevent others from using the same treatment which you tried but were unhappy with.

Personally I can say that I am today able to work and enjoy lige because of Mc Timoney Choropractics which were not available on the NHS.

The accident happened in the 70's whilst doing cross country running. I was offered opiate pain killers and anti inlfamatory medicine, but had to wait three years for the NHS to give me an examiniation. The examiner did not touch me, just recommended physio therapy which I still needed to be on medication to attend the clinic which told me there was nothing wrong with me.

I have had corsets and wedges made for my shoes, and had two specialist orthopeadic officer chairs since then so I can still use a PC. Still no word from NHS on a treatment that will work.

In the meantime I have one chiropractic each year and I no longer need a diet of opiates to kill pain, I do not have any.

Maybe you should have tried McTimoney rather than a British Chiropratic qualified person. Good luck with you problems, NHS doesn't have many of the answers.

But their attitude is being reflected throughout UK society as a whole. I will use as illustration the 5 Managers of Together Housing Association Ltd and their legal counsel (barrister) who felt that the COVID rules in play at the County Court Bradford should not apply to them..

So they got together to conspire how they would win they case that they shouldn't. Three times over a two day period, these arrogant twats went in hand in hand five at a time into a meeting room which had a large sign on the door which said "no more than two people to use the room, AND wear a MASK".

Comparing European politics to UK politics is a waste of time, unless you start to count all of the good things that we have already lost, and then look at all the good things that are about to be washed away, and be replaced with an American model, derived from a country that cannot tell the truth to it's own politicians or voters.

We have lost Legal Aid for tenants fighting unscrupulous landlords, we have landlords who can now hold their own sudo legal Reviews to enable repossession of their rented property without taking the tenant to court.

We have American products replacing European household name brands with dodgy stuff that requires you to start a class action against the company in order to get your money back, or a trifle in compensation if you are lucky.

The milk we now import is full of puss and antibiotics, your health data has been sold to American pharmacuetical and health insurance companies, without your permission.

GIGO

Surely someone must remember this one GIGO.

How much is the not complete NHS data set worth ?

How much info does the NHS actually hold on patients, er which is actually relevant ?

I have attended chiropractics treatments for many years, which the NHS does not have any record of.

I have been successfully using Cannabis oil to treat skin cancer, but I did not get it on prescription via my GP. Numerous friends buy cannabis products (full spectrum) for health and well being, which are unknown to the NHS record keepers.

If a friend is suffering from depression or anxiety I am far more likely to suggest any number of efficacious treatments icluding Psylocibin, than I am likely to say, "you should see your doctor about that".

Nuff said I think, the illustration is clear, the NHS data set isn't really that "complete" or "useful" to USA drug companies and USA health insurance markets, that is ..... going forward into our none NHS health future.
