how much do you type?
I cant believe your serious. I think the reality distortion field has set in. Touchsceens in whatever form are no good for text entry of more than a hundred words.

At £200ish the Advent Vega a phenomenal machine even with the stock firmware although good luck getting stock - its sold out 5 times already. ( If that were apple the guardian would have a 10 page spread about the stock problem).
Some of the apps have problems but having a better web browser than the iPad its not a bad trade off for the time being.
Specification wise it beats the iPad ( CPU and graphics) on some things and is worse on other (the iPad screen has a better viewing angle).
But at half the price is it therefore half as bad? No - its 90% as good as an iPad.
The writer needs to emphasize the iPhones main problem - its constant desire to make love to iTunes.
A 'smart' phone isnt that clever when it needs a PC/Mac to operate every 5mins.
Going from an iPhone to an android it was great plugging my phone into ANY computer to copy files over. Updates done over the air and no stupid stupid locked to a single iTunes install. At least the app store for iPhone works over the air. Oh and bluetooth file transfer - very poor to omit. But as you know its Steves way or the highway.
By 2018 or 2022 all the good players will not be playing in the WC.
Top Clubs pay their players tens of millions of pounds a year and do not want them getting injured on international duty - especially when they dont see much of the revenue generated once in a blue moon by the WC.
When the big European superleague break away happens it will be out of the control of FIFA / UEFA and run directly by the big clubs and media companies.
Sad for football - but good that it gets rid of Blatter and co. (Only to be replaced by someone else similar but probably more focused on $$ rather than sucking off putin).
PS3 owner here. Game is fine. Odd slow down every few hours of game play when playing ground war - apart from that its totally fine.
Each console has its strengths and weaknesses.
I'd never get on with an xbox as I couldn't stand to PAY to play on another persons xbox. (no dedicated servers). Same as PSN - but at least its free!
They've sold out of another batch. The advent vega team have a very active twitter feed.
I've managed to nab one for £230 - its a lovely bit of kit for that level of pounds. Dual core CPU , nvidia graphics , SD card slot , HDMI , USB.
Wife acceptance factor is high due to the superb web browser complete with flash (that the Tosh folio lacked at launch.)
As its not officially google sanctioned - there is no market app. This has already been overcome by the community. Not that its essential as I downloaded Angry Birds from the web and install is a one click process.
As word of mouth spreads and assuming they can keep up with demand - this could be the number one tablet PC for xmas.
The tech companies like tosh , samsung and others are looking at the market and seeing if anyone buys their existing and upcoming tablets.
iPad sales are very good.
Cheap decent tablets at 1/2 the price could explode.
Evidence - Advent Vega. £230 and better spec than ipad. Sold out within 2 hours.
"It's too big to be a phone, and too small to be a tablet. It has all the worst qualities of both, and the advantages of neither. It is DOOMED."
Stop sucking steve jobs off. Some people do want the biggest device they can fit in their pocket. Not for everyone but some people will find the form factor attractive.
"Android is still not mature on the small screen" - how many phones are there now?
"apps don't scale to the bigger one" Yes they do.
Camera: Just because apple didn't put a camera on the iTampon - doesnt mean that no one else can do it correctly. Regarding shaky hands - what about phones - example Jesus phone 4? Or are they some magical device that doesnt shake.
Get out of the reality distortion field.
"No free hotpots like AT&T offers, and no way to enable disable a non-committal 3G access function from the device." - Not everyone lives in the USA or has to deal with AT&T
"Its GPU is weaker." - you may be right there.
"You can't see a whole page on the screen at once." Surely it depends on the page. Similar problem faces all small computing devices INCLUDING the iTampon. Screen resolution dicates this.
"There are no document editing apps comparable to iLife Mobile for Android." Google docs as one from the top of my head .I know its not an 'app'
"Lower resolution. " Your correct 1024 × 768 vs 1024 × 600. Wow what a difference. I expect the differnce in quality will blow me away! /s
"the battery will die so much faster. Both in terms of charge time, and lifecycles." Any evidence to support this? Or is it just because its a smaller battery?
"This thing is a PoS. The iPad is not world ending, but the continual lack of any competitor coming to the market with an actually viable alternative is simply sad." - Your probably right about it being a POS. Lots of alternatives (android , blackberry , windows , ubuntu and meego ) are in the works.
"With android you have find an "itune equivalent app" to sync your multimedia content."
Come again. This is the main reason I love android.
Copy files to memory card. Check
Copy files via usb as a standard drive / mount point. Check.
Copy files over wi-fi as ftp / scp / cifs - check.
About the only way you cant do it is telepathic
Wasn't it a while ago the fruit fans were all like - no one cares if its open source or closed. They just want it to work.
As His royal highness the price of darkness has not attacked android for not working - that must therefore be an endorsement of androids quality in that dept.
Apple is no longer cool - get over it fan bois. I miss the days of jaguar when I was genuinely impressed with their kit. Now its just shiny with no substance or substantial developments and their legal dept important than engineering or design.
Desipte what the article says - the install process is very user friendly.
If your clever enough to know what a partition is - then you can easily set up multiples for you home folders.
And as with all ubuntu desktop installs - you can quite happily run firefox and surf the web while the system installs.
The iPods, iPhones and iTampons run by the evil iTunes are a totally different section of the apple religion to MAC OSX.
Think CoE vs Rome or 'Freedom' vs 'Do what your told' or Cool (osx) vs not cool (iTampon)
Thankfully there has been no trouble between the two camps yet. We dont want a Northern Ireland of the Computing World.
Actually its a lot easier than that - its normal computing VS money making.
"For the most recent quarter Nokia announced $465 million profit, Apple announced $3.38 billion for the same period."
A lot of Nokias cash is spent on R&D
proper R&D that is - not nicking something and putting a flashy GUI on it for peanuts.
These innovations bring in cash over decades.
e.g. lots of 3G stuff that everyone bar apple licences - because they dont have to as they are super , gorgeous , amazing.
Yes its sending data through googles cloud - but its open source so anyone could easily take the source and implement their own cloud - thereby not giving the data to google.
Most of googles services are this way (most , not all). Its only a matter of time before a more expensive version of google that has better privacy polices is on the way.
Google aim to be in front through being cheaper (free) and because they were first.
But they are very easy to bash , even though none of you care that much about your privacy just enough to rant and rave but not actually do anything. Ohh I've degoogled (but still use facebook) for example.
Apple users - if you buy a new phone from the fruit company you will have multi tasking - and if its clever enough to let apps run in the background you can have an app live soccer live scores.
Basically a football scores app - but tell it which games you want to follow and it will notify you in various ways of a change in score - it runs in the background so you can still use your phone for all the other bits n bobs.
My HTC Hero last 2-3 days most of the time when I dont use it heavily.
Under heavy use I can make it crap out in a morning.
On a side note - I had a old school Nokia - mono screen, no bluetooth or 3G or anything really.
Been sitting in the garage powered off for 18 ish months.
75% battery left when recently powered on. Now sits in my car as an SOS phone.
If I bought a dell with windows on it - I would put linux on it.
I would happily take a 1p refund or credit note. Sometimes its not the money just the fact that Dell thinks its a windows sale and therefore windows is popular.
Measuring linux install base is very very hard - because of things like this.
but well , it answered some of my questions.
Regardless if its any better than the wii remote and/or natal ALL DEPENDS UPON GAMES.
The wii mote is great - but only for wii sport.
Metroid prime, mario galaxy were good games but didnt do anything special with the wii mote. The best game on the platform is mario kart that really didnt use much of the remote either.
Not for me - but could well be sucessful.
The ps3 is a ten year (at least) project for sony.
The ps2 that turned ten recently still has good games coming out for it. Unlike my original xbox that MS dropped like a bomb as soon as the 360 came out. Nintendo didnt really support the game cube for long either. Software sales (not consoles) are the things that make these companies money.
"But Opera believes Apple will approve the app because it doesn't actually interpret code."
I hope they do let it in , but I would not bet my money on it. It may meet all the criteria - but apple dont like competition any more. Rather than get the company to innovate (apple of old) the new apple uses rules and legal measures to stay ahead.
* Duplicates existing functionality - nope as it compresses pages and therefore has a feature the default safari browser doesnt have.
* Interpets existing code - nope. All done on opera servers as the article mentions.
* doesnt let you get on your knees facing west and pray to S Jobs every hour - ahh this is what they will reject if for.
Google made all their own software and didn't use a single piece of existing open source software to help create their empire.
I agree the tone of the letter is a bit questionable - but google did get help~
You cant put a £150 OS (win7) onto a £100 netbook. So if MS doesn't drop win prices chromeOS will win big.
If MS does reduce price - google may have lost the battle - but may win the war by taking a lot of money MS may have had if chrome OS had not existed.
Its a win win for Google and a win win for linux in general as the improvements google make will be used by others.
To AC and John - about managing your own machine - thats exactly what I want. I need access to the OS. Load balancing is also available in many forms. Guess it depends upon your skill set. Any my licensing costs have been 0.
"Red Dog reportedly has built in virtualization and an incredibly high scalability to multiple cores compared to NT or Linux. "
Linux scales to thousands and thousands of cores. #1 super computer runs linux. 12,960 IBM PowerXCell 8i CPUs, 6,480 AMD Opteron dual-core processors
