You hear that, Mr Cook? Samsung's profits have gone UP

Re: balanced reporting

El Reg is perfectly balanced. Read more comments on more articles, you'll find people who think it's biased against MS, biased against Google and biased against Samsung. It's biased against all of them, if you find that too difficult to grasp then go and read some pro-apple site.

Master Beats: Why doesn't audio quality matter these days?

sabroni Silver badge

Re: "Music" is the problem

The term "audio quality" just isn't applicable to music I don't listen to or understand. That crap would sound the same coming out of anything as I'm just not listening.

Other people liking different things, which in reality are the wrong things, is the problem.

Re: Try that in the private sector (The REAL world)

So the banking sector isn't part of the public sector? Or are you just not aware of the massive rewards for failure in that industry? A good example in the news today about the public money that bailed out HBOS and was then given in bonuses to the men who fucked it up....

What you mean is that in the private sector (The REAL world) some poor pleb would've been forced to take the rap and fired while his manager got another bonus.

It's Google's business, within the law they can do what they like. No one has a right to appear on a page of Google search results. The OFT's guidelines may be more important in the UK but Google are a global company.

If you don't like it then advertise on one of the competing search engines (though in the EU claiming that other search engines are "competing" is a bit of a stretch...)

Disney shutters Star Wars game unit with 200 layoffs

sabroni Silver badge

Re: you just remove & dump the additional stuff you don't want.

I know Disney aren't a charity, I'm not suggesting they are. I'm suggesting that if you buy a company then make people redundant shortly after there should be recompense for those made redundant. You seem to be disagreeing with that, can you explain why you think that's wrong? Do you agree that Disney shouldn't have bought the games company if they were just going to shut it?

sabroni Silver badge

Re: you just remove & dump the additional stuff you don't want.

And you don't have a problem equating fluffy dice and vile seat covers with people? I see them as quite different and would say people's livelihoods are a little more important.

I stand by my point, this is asset stripping and at the very least those who lose their jobs should be entitled to a generous redundancy. No doubt those who engineered the deal are getting a healthy bonus.

sabroni Silver badge

Re: Shame...

I disagree. There is tons of variety and imagination in the current games market, it's bizarre that you're claiming it isn't so. From the 70p time wasters on iOS and android to full price console games there is more choice than there's ever been, with lots of titles that involve neither split second timing or loud irritating "music". Stop moaning and take a look around, there's loads to play whatever your taste!

sabroni Silver badge

Re: Let's be honest here....

... you may be right, but the fact that Disney just bought it and then shut it down reeks of asset stripping. If you don't have plans for a business then don't buy it. This sort of shit should be illegal, at the very least there should be mandatory massive redundancy payouts when a new owner decides to shut a company they've just bought...

No Luigi Love??

I'm playing Mansion 2 at the moment and it's bloody lovely! 20 minute levels, lots of variety, funny animation and great attention to detail. One of those games where if you lookup how to do something on the interwebs you're then kicking yourself for not spotting something that seems so obvious now! The 3DS seems to work so much better when your peering into a miniature world rather than when it tries to do expansive vistas.

I take issue with the comment that it's using the gyroscopic controls for looking around though (it only does this when you peer through windows, not for any large portion of the game, thankfully!). It looks to me like it's using the cameras on the lid to decide where you're looking, I reckon it's just too fast and precise to be the gyro. Does anyone know for sure?

Re: This really is NOT a big deal.

Not for the technically minded no. But for the majority of Android users it means they won't ever see this thing called AdBlock, meaning they'll probably not even think that blocking ads is a possibility. More importantly it shows Google making a choice and indicating a direction, making it clearer that ad revenue is where they are focusing.

sabroni Silver badge

Re: @JDX It's my device

Bite this. The article makes no mention of your device, or what you choose to install on it. The article is about AdBlock in the Google Play store, if your comment has no relevance to that then it's in the wrong thread.
