Channel 4 4OD to hit PS3

Proper app?

Here's hoping it's a proper app rather than a link that takes you to iPlayer which it currently is on the PS3.

Gapless?

So can this thing do gapless MP3?

Firefox button

Unless they changed it since Beta 1 that Firefox button takes up the width of a window anyways so not really sure why they decided to waste that amount of screen estate with it.

It's definitely quicker than 3.6 and eats less memory but I still don't want my tabs at the top.

Good and bad

Well it's using a lot less memory than FF3.6 does and in general feels speedier, but maybe that's because most of the extensions don't work.

The Firefox button top left looks completely lost and out of place.

Depending on the theme you have it's now difficult to see which tab is selected compared to 3.6.

They seem to have copied lots of Chrome in the UI.

It's a wait and see for me.

Throttling

They do seem to throttle occasionally but recently my download speed seems to have halved in the evenings. It's fine the rest of the time.

Thumbs up

I get the full 10Mbps that they guessed at. Had to pull all the extension cables from the master socket due to crappy wiring but after that I hit the full 10Mbps. Only had one outage and they texted me beforehand to say so! All this for excellent prices too :)

Not ready yet.

No offence but linux still isn't ready for primetime. Having used many GUIs over the years and have to say that linux (or at least Ubuntu 9.0.4) just isn't ready.

Example 1: Trying to set the IP of the machine to be static. Oh wait I can't because as soon as I try it the 'Apply' button greys out. Tips from friends that use it, 'yeah that networking applet is crap, kill it and manually edit a frickin text file'.

Example 2: Automounting USB drives. Well this does work...until it decides there are updates to install at which point it stops working and won't work until I reboot.

It's ok the folks here saying that's not a problem but try telling it to people who have trouble just pointing and clicking on stuff. Editing config files just isn't an option.

My file/web server etc still runs linux as it's great for that but I just don't see it being good for the vast majority of end users.

Flop?

Anonymous Coward precisely how has it been a flop? Seeing as it's market penetration has been far higher more quickly than DVD ever managed.

People expect too much, if something doesn't catch on within a couple of years they say it's a failure. Took far longer than that for DVD to properly catch on.

Just rip out any extensions

Just open your master socket, rip out any extension cables running from it (who doesn't use DECT phones these days?). My speed went from a dodgy 5Mbps up to 10Mbps just by doing that!

Opera slams Microsoft's Windows 7 E move - again

FAIL

Why don't Opera STFU?

I'd love to know how Opera expect people to get Opera onto their shiny new Windows 7 PCs without a browser on there to download it?

I just don't get it. OS X comes with a browser as far as I know, Ubuntu comes with FF preinstalled so what's the problem?

If you have IE8 and don't want it you can just go download another browser.

Same here

We still use IE6 as the corporate browser with random dottings of IE7. No sign of IE8.

What's worse is we have to support it for our users.....makes being on the web team somewhat annoying.
