Google shutters Nexus One webstore

Oh well, back to the hacked ROMs

@AC - I also bought the Googlephone as it was unlocked, and I didn't fancy being tied to any particular network. I guess when it breaks or becomes obsolete I'll just end up getting the next HTC Android phone and loading a custom ROM onto it, like I used to with my previous WinMo phones.

As long as Google et al don't stop us doing that, I don't see any big problem with the Nexus One's "failure". It is a nice handset and everyone I know with one likes it, plus there's the benefit of (at least for the next few versions) getting the latest and greatest Android version direct from Google first.

Thumb Up

Nice as a backup browser

I only tend to use it when I'm stuck on a 2G network, but 5.1 is a solid upgrade. I do wonder what's keeping them from releasing Opera Mobile on Android though - they seem to be concentrating a bit too much on Symbian (and even Windows Mobile has it!) - considering both these platforms seem to be dying I'm not sure that's a wise move.

HTC Wildfire

Pity, I was hoping Huwaei had improved on the T-Mobile Pulse as I'm in the market for a cheap Android handset. Any chance of a HTC Wildfire review?

Welcome

T-Mobile bad?

To those complaining about T-Mobile's service, I think nowadays it's very much the case that they're all just as bad as each other. When getting a mobile contract I just go for the bottom line, as everything else (poor offshored customer service, charges for 08 numbers and voicemail, limits on "unlimited" data tariffs) is basically the same.

No doubt whoever ends up buying them will just adopt the same business practices.
