My friend had a ZX81 for his birthday. I remember we used to lie on the floor in front of the telly laboriously typing as previously mentioned. When the 16K RAM pack came out we couldn’t imagaine anyone needing 16K! Eventually he got one of course and ram pack wobble became our nemesis. I got a 16K Spectrum some time later. After having that for a while it got sent away too have the 48k upgrade for my birthday. It arrived before my birthday but I was told not to play any 48K games until my birthday! Can’t believe it looking back but my mate got me a copy of manic miner and we used to play it secretly when my dad wasn’t there! Those were the days...

I still have a Mac Plus. I have converted it to boot off the EMU SD card reader (http://www.bigmessowires.com/2011/09/02/an-sd-card-floppy-emulator-for-classic-compact-macs/).
I converted the external floppy drive to take the SD card. It's fast but oddly quiet...
So far I havent had any problems with the caps but I the tracks on the logic board did corrode when I stored it in a slightly damp location so I had to buy another board. Other than that, still running good!

I got a 16k Spectrum for My birthday (or Christmas) in '83. I still remember the fist command I issued to it. Border 2. Amazing! I later persuaded my dad to fork out for an upgrade to 48k which entailed sending it back to Sinclair, but once I got it back I could play my mate's ripped off copy of Manic Miner!

"(or iPod Touch which came before the iPhone and paved the way for many to get an iPhone but that seems to get forgotten / not get mentioned much"
Actually the iPhone came first and the iPod Touch later for those who couldn't afford an iPhone - Steve Jobs called it "an iPhone with training wheels" or something like that.
