@steve 130
But 13 year olds are still children -- at least they are in the UK --
I suppose in America they look like full-grown adults...

I think the author of this article should have mentioned that there are some cases where 'Fair Use' of copyright works are allowed, for example to highlight excerpts from an existing article, or to allow for certain creative uses of material (for example, so a baby dancing to a particular pop song on Youtube should not be breaking copyright rules.
I'm sure the examples the author gives regarding BBC are probably not 'fair use', but thought it deserved a mention other wise you risk scaremongering as much as the BBC does when trying to explain copyright..
I'm pretty sure the Anon. site will mean that people will be allowed to call themselves [Mr D Duck/Michael Mouse etc] without fear of reprisals -- unlike Facebook for example.
Users of the site won't all be called 'anonymous coward' -- that would be ridiculous!
The author thinks Google will 'revive its open approach to the web'?
This is the same Google which apparently now demands phone number verification to open a Gmail account, and then demands that all Youtube users open a Gmail account and are required to link it to their Youtube.
I see no signs of 'open'.
"PDF is an embarrassment to our species"
A completely blinkered view which really doesnt deserve arguing the case against....
...but briefly, speaking as a designer, there are loads of reasons why I love pdf as well as things that annoy me -- the same with design for other media (web/print etc).
That quote must have been said with no thought whatsoever about the words which were coming out of his mouth
""The tiny minority of actual honest cops"
Please get over yourself - Every single copper I have ever met has been honest and upstanding and willing to put themselfs at risk to protect the public, that's not to say that there aren't a very few corrupt coppers but, guess what: In a massive company there will always be a tiny minority of corrupt or self serving employees. This does not mean that they are in anything like the majority."
-- But you must admit they do seem to be pretty dishonest 'when it matters'. Such as the de Menezes case, The innocent guy killed at G20, the guy who was shot by police for carrying a wooden table leg in a bag etc etc -- not one copper brought to justice when it really mattered...
In answer to your questions:
1. Does CO2 in the atmosphere retain heat? Yes
2. Does burning fossilised organic matter generate CO2? Yes
3. Was fossilised organic matter being burnt at the same rate before people started digging it out of the ground to burn?
Possibly more so (from things lke volcanoes/forest fires etc, possibly less so. You still have to take into account many other things such as the output of the sun and the fact that clouds also keep the warmth in. Whether man has increased the warming of the planet is still under debate but if he has it doesnt seem to be having any effect.
...you believe the innocuous gas, H20, that we breath out and that plants need to survive is in any way damaging us.
If, like me, you don't think it's a problem, you should buggar the expensive diesel and go for the leccy car which you can currently top up for free at most places where you can find a charger, and you get to skip the Congestion charge too -- Win-Win!
'Preposterously' -- Is that the author's opinion? Or the Reg's opinion?
Shouldn't this be left to opinion pieces with news stories just containing straight-up journalism?
I'll be the one to determine preposterousness -- and believe me, i know it when I see it...
I don't think we should just accept rabid environmentalism and everything that comes with it, especially as the Human Global Warming theory crumbles day-by-day, so no, I wont 'get used to it'.
If the energy companies reputation is anything to go by they will continue to try to bleed their customers dry (as they have done these last couple of years by swiftly putting prices up, but being very reluctant to bring them down when wholesale prices slumped)
The last thinkg I want is these bandits having any control over my appliances.
"If I was going to do something that stupid^Wdrastic then I'd put it on a web host in another country where it would be much harder for them to take it down without a lot of fuss first"
-- dont you understand AC? It wasnt Fathers4Justice
They dont need a web host in another country because they are innocent!
Steven, I think you're being a little harsh on Mr Hohoho and maybe taking it alll a bit too seriously.
Fantasy as it may be, it's still a romantic notion that one could buy a ticket at Victoria to anywhere in the world, and it does make me wonder why it can't be that simple sometimes.
Maybe if we all had compulsory ID, we really could just jump on a ship or plane and the world would be our oyster (card).
