What we need is good servers. For too long to many IT departments have replaced "slow" PCs, without realising that what people need for most finance etc. is a fast server to cope with the massive data load, but a ten year old PC wont deal with accounts, or the sort of spreadsheets accountants use.

I have 4 friends in IT, and only one of them has any formal training, and he's in sales FFS. The other 3 make it up as they go along. They have no idea about proper structure or documentation. As far as thay care as long as it dose the job it will do, and screw anyone who might want to look at the code later.

Its about time programers were seen on the same level as engineers, then perhaps the world would be a better place, and maybe they need pushing, but holding them to the same standards.

What do you call proper security exactly? I thought it was good strong encryption, where people are encryption, although I fear that you think there is somthing other than encryption to most security. Breaches happen when the encryption is either not strong enough or not properly done (i.e. work arounds or errors)
